Greetings from Commonwealth Stadium -- sitting in the press box overlooking C.M. Newton Field.

Now I'm going to tell you why Paul W. "Bear" Bryant really left Kentucky -- and this is my theory -- bean bag toss.

That's right, bean bag toss.

Walking through the parking lot on our way in here, it became apparent that Kentucky tailgaters are a little different.

There were a few grilling. A couple of wine-and-cheese 'gaiters. And a LOT of bean-bag tossers.

Seems the big thing here is to bring two small ramps, each constructed of wood and raised about half a foot or so off the ground -- the box part is about the size of a computer carry bag but a little longer. Each is painting in blue and white and has a hole about the size of a softball.

Along with this, they bring blue and white bean bags. And they toss them and try to ring the hole, like you'd see when the fair comes to town.

I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP!!!!

And this is HUGE here -- about every third or fourth tailgater was doing this as we walked in.

Now can you imagine Bear Bryant walking through that lot before a big game and seeing the program's die-hard supporters tossing bean bags???? No kids throwing a football around, just bean bags.

You can bet nobody was throwing any bean bags in Junction, Texas.

No wonder he left.

Also, and, again, I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP, one of the TVs in the press box is tuned to a soccer game.

Which begs the question -- don't these people take their football seriously?

Apparently not. This is, after all, a basketball and horse racing school.

On a positive note, Cecil and I had a 5-star meal last night at the Precint steak house in Cincy -- photos on the wall of previous diners from Jon Bon Jovi to Margaret Thatcher to George Burns to Frank Sinatra to Boosty Collins to Billy Crystal to Gene Simmons -- I could go on and on. As good a steak as I've ever had anywhere.

Kickoff not too far away. This is your thread. Have fun with it, but step away from the bean bags ...

Bean Bag Game = Corn Hole. Actually, a lot of people play that game. Personally, i find it that the game gets boring quickly.

Glad, you had a 5 star meal. At least you got something good out of it!

Kentucky fans are corn-holers in more ways than a bean bag tossing game.

And who the heck is Boosty Collins? Is he related to Bootsy - third cousins or something?

If you have to ask ...

Bootsy Collins noted as the bass player for James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic and Dee-Lite (Groove is in the Heart). Link: Link

I couldn't list all the A-listers on the wall at that restaurant -- George W. Bush was flanked by Lenny Kravitz and Jon Bon Jovi. George Burns, David Hasselhoff -- a very interesting collection.

VERY windy here today -- it will affect the passing game for sure.

Full UK team on the field right now doing warm-ups. Alabama guys spread around in position groupings. The UA corner of the stands is relatively full already, the rest is kind of sparse but I'm sure they'll have a good crowd -- John Calipari and the UK basketball team will be introduced.

They had a camp-out for student tickets overnight. Calipari camped out with them until 3 a.m., at which point he realized what everyone told him was true -- that these Big Blue basketball crazies would be up all night partying in the 40-degree weather -- so he slipped away.

commentator just said that it would be interesting to see how we do coming off a disappointing week... I am assuming that he means the loss of Hightower but other than that what was disappointing for us last week?

Cornhole was very popular for VA Tech fans, but I didn't know anyone in the SEC played that game.
