As Dombrowski gets Avila out to end the inning, he has already allowed a season high in runs with five.
Big, big inning for Alabama. Let's see if Howell can keep the momentum going for the Tide and put a hoop on the scoreboard next to Kentucky's name.

The grand slam by Kubal was the first by Alabama in the SEC tourney since Travis Garner did the same against Florida in 2002.

For anyone who has been to Regions Park this week you may have noticed how in the dirt (directly to the left and right of the umpire) are each team's logos.
Each logo is drawn very, very well and are far enough away to where they don't get messed up. Whenever one game ends and the other is set to begin, the first thing the grounds crew works on are the logos. Nice touch from the SEC.
In the meantime, UK has runners at first and third with two outs. Howell got the first two batters, then let Chris Wade rip a double down the third base line. Wade then stole third and Howell just walked Troy Frazier.
No. 9 hitter Marcus Nidiffer is now up...

And he got him...after another questionable non-strike call (the ball must have missed the zone by a nanometer), Howell rung up Nidiffer on the following pitch.
On to the third as the Foo Fighters' "My Hero" blares over the PA.

It's worth pointing out both of Kentucky's games have ended well past midnight. The game against Alabama ended a couple of minutes before 2 a.m. (CST) and the game against Ole Miss ended a little bit before 1 a.m. (CST).
How this will or how this is affecting the Cats... I don't know. It is something to keep in the back of your mind as the game progresses over the later innings (especially if Kentucky is trailing).

Great sliding grab by leftfielder Tyler Odle on a sharply hit ball by leadoff hitter Keenan Wiley.

So far Howell has kept Kentucky's version of Albert Pujols (Sawyer Carroll) in check.
Carroll, who is batting .417 with 16 HR and 78 RBI, has struck out and grounded out tonight. Wells' surprise decision to go with Howell, so far, is paying off.
5-0, Alabama as go to the top of the 4th.

Close call at first involving Alex Kubal. As Kubal overran the bag he gave the umpire a "safe" sign which the umpire responded by punching the air right in front of him.
Needless to say the throng of Alabama fans here at Regions Park greatly dissaproved.
Two outs now as Josh Rutledge steps up (Rutledge, who reached base three times yesterday, has been been quiet so far tonight).

A quick glance over to the softball thread has just informed me that the Alabama softball team is leading Missouri, 6-0 while the Alabama baseball team continues to lead Kentucky 5-0.
So far, so good for each team.

A rinky-dink hit by UK third baseman Chris McClendon just cleared Jake Smith's glove by an inch, putting runners at first and secoond for the Cats with no outs.
If you were following the posts during yesterday's action, you may remember how I noted if Jake Smith's left arm was an inch longer he would have prevented a UGA hit in the first and Hyatt would have carried a no-hitter into the 7th...well the same thing just happened again. Jake just needed one more inch.
Meanwhile, a Troy Frazier sacrfice fly just scored Brian Spear from third...it's now 5-1, as Howell just struck out Marcus Nidiffer to end the Wildcat fourth.

Alex Avila just banged one off the Auburn logo in left-center that missed going out by a few feet...expect a Kentucky pitching change shortly.

I think this just may do it. Dombrowski tried to pick off Avila at second. The rather "slow" Avila has only attempted two stolen bases all year.
Avila to third on the wild throw...and now to home on a deep sac fly to center by Matt Bentley.
6-1, Alabama.

The Kentucky catcher, Marcus Nidiffer, has visited the mound three times this inning already...classic ploy to get the guys in the bullpen more warmup time...and here comes the change.
LHP Tommy Warner has come in for the 'Cats.

In my two days here, the before game and between inning music has been either country (Alabama, Tim McGraw), 80's rock (Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi) classic rock (Bruce Springsteen, John Fogerty) or modern alternative (Foo Fighters, Weezer).
However, they just broke out "Ice, Ice Baby" by you know who...interesting.
Meanwhile, Warner got UK out of the inning. 6-1, Alabama as we go to the bottom of the 5th
