The loser's bracket final, or the semifinal game, underway at the Alabama Softball Complex.

It's Jax State vs. Florida State in a rematch of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional opener, won 4-3 by JSU.

Sports Writer from Anniston just dubbed this game: "Free Shoes University vs. Just Show Up." I didn't say it, so don't get mad at me.

FSU's Carly Wynn drew a leadoff 4-pitch walk from Ashely Eliasson. Next two batters popped up. Osmon reaches on an infield single -- great snag by JSU's Courtney Underwood at second but couldn't get the throw there in time while stretched out on the ground.

Runners on the corner for FSU's Jessica Gilmore. Called third strike by ump Diane Beasley, with her usual shuffle-step right-hook punchout.

FSU no runs on one hit, no errors in the top of the first.

But the Punch Out King, Chad Stears, is on first base. I'm looking for the two-hop lasso punch-out before this game is over.

Jax State's turn:

FSU starting Melissa May, RHP (2-2, 3.55 ERA), a shortish lefty junkballer who I remember from last year's regional

Chrissy O'Neal with a hard single up the middle to start things off for the Gamecocks.

Rachel Fleming strikes out swinging.

O'Neal moves to second on wild pitch.

Prier pops up to second base for out two.

Underwood out 1-3 grounder to pitcher.

Eliasson, making her third start in the regional and second of the day for JSU, is 15-5, 2.57 ERA.

FSU gets it going in the second:

Stager walked, sacrificed over to second, stole third and scored on an E2 when the ball got away to the outfield, 1-0 FSU.

Snyder singled. McConn out 1-4, moving Snyder over to second.

Back to the top of the lineup with Wynn, who takes a third strike, rung up for out three.

FSU 1 run on one hit, one error.

JSU up:
Barker drew a walk; moved to second on Elder's sac bunt.
Jarman pops up to right field for out two.
It's up to Kayla Collins -- who has a sister on the FSU team and a dad who played football at Alabama (Doug Collins) for Paul W. 'Bear' Bryant, which makes him OK in my book -- but she grounds out to shortstop.

So it's FSU 1-0 after two.

FSU in the third:

Buckmon floated a single that landed in a favorable spot between second and short for a single, moved to second when Ahrberg grounded out to third.

Osmon strikes out swinging as Eliasson finds another gear and blows it by her with a riseball.

Now Jessica Gilmore takes a third strike on the inside corner, out three.

Jax State:

Ledbetter leads off from the nine hole. Strikes out swinging.

Jax State's bats are dead. This is FSU's No. 3 pitcher. Time to wake up if you want to be playing tomorrow.

Chissy O'Neal must have heard me. She crushes a home run about 230 feet to straightaway center.

All of a sudden we're tied 1-1.

Fleming out at first on a long throw from shortstop. Stears with the huge punchout, a looping overhand right.

Prier singles up the middle hard with two outs. Moves to second on wild pitch.

Underwood pops up to second base for the third out.

It's all tied up at 1-1 after three.

Official attendance 1,344 for the day.

Probably 1,000 of those were here for the Alabama game at 2:30 p.m. on a workday afternoon.

FSU rallies with two outs -- single and two walks, but pop-up to short snuffs out the threat.

Jax State gets a one-out single from Elder.

Biggest play of the game comes when Jarman hits a double-play ball and FSU second baseman Kristie McConn muffs the throw for an error, leaving runners on first and second with one out.

Both runners advance on a wild pitch.

Up comes FSU transfer Kalya Collins, who singles to center to drive in two runs.

FSU very shaky. Ledbetter reaches on a sac bunt when McConn boots it.

So that's runners on first and second again. Big meeting for FSU in the circle and coach JoAnne Graf brings in Terese Gober to pitch.

It's 3-1 Jax State and we're looking at a strong possibility of an in-state regional right now.

Gober walks O'Neal to load the bases with one out.

Trouble on the cable for FSU.

Fleming, who hit the home run against Alabama, is up. She hits into a fielder's choice, Collin out at the plate 5-2.

Two outs for Prier, a home-run slugger who hasn't done much in this regional. I'm calling for the grand slam, if Gober can find the plate.

Prier hits a two-RBI single to right. The ball gets past catcher Jessica Gilmore, E2, and the other runs comes home on the error. Prier goes all the way to third on the throw and the error.

Gober throws a wild pitch and Prier scores, to now Jax State leads 7-1 and FSU is on the ropes and taking a beating.

Only Jarman's run is earned. The other five are not, thanks to some shaky play in the field by the Seminoles. THREE ERRORS in the fourth!!!!

Underwood drew a walk. Another wild pitch moves her to second.

Barn door closing now that the horses are all out running around. Tiffany McDonald, FSU's ace, comes out of the pen.

But wait, there's more. Barker hits an RBI single to center. It's now 8-1 and the run rule could yet come into play.

Another wild pitch, third of the inning for FSU, moves Barker to second, but a pop out to second base ends a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG inning.

Jax State 8, Florida State 1, after four.

Was this FSU's last best chance?

The Seminoles reach on error to lead off the inning, then get a pair of two-out walks to load the bases. Eliasson strikes out Michelle Snyder for the third out, no damage.

JSU puts the potential game-ending run on base to start the bottom of the fifth when Jarman reaches on an error, E5.

Collins strikes out looking.

Pinch hitter Alana Hicks in for JSU. And she hits a walk-off moon shot home run to center that ends it.

Jax State 10, Florida State 1.

Alabama will play Jax State at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the championship round of the regional. ESPN2 will televise.

Passing it along: Head coach Patrick Murphy made a plea to all Alabama fans to show up and pack the house to give the national audience on ESPN2 a look at the support the UA program gets for softball. He said he would buy everybody's ticket if he could. Single-game (or session if it goes to the 'if' game) tickets are $10.

It's about 45 minutes before Alabama takes on Jacksonville State. Alabama is the home team and are the white sleeveless jerseys with a crimson longsleeve undershirt and white pants. Jacksonville State is in all black with red lettering.
