The number of previous Bama wins in the past means nothing except for bragging rights.

Bama Football: Get by Va. Tech. and it's 14-0 & NC#13.

The problems with that theory are multiple:

Many Bama fans cannot even remember how many games Bama won in 1993.

Opponents fans will never know the truth and just laugh at Bama about the records.

Future Bama fans will not know or understand what happened and will accept the claims from Bama opponents.

The official NCAA records will reflect the fact that Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, etc. are racing away on the all time victories list and Alabama will never, ever be able to catch up due to vacated wins.

Bama lies within the dire possibility of falling to #2 on the SEC all time winningest teams list behind Tennessee.

No amount of "knowing" who won will ever matter officially.

All of those things are accurate, and like you, they do bother me. But rival fans will always laugh at eachother, so even if Alabama didn't have to vacate wins, that would still go on.

Also, even if the record books are "officially" changed, most Alabama fans will not recognize the "official" records - you can't be arrested for continuing to call a win a win, even if the "official" records are changed.

I've heard Gene Stallings correct people who say he only won 62 games at Alabama - he still verbally tells people he won 70 games, and he doesn't get in trouble for saying that. For me, it just makes the NCAA even less legitimate.

As for the all-time wins list and the SEC all-time wins list, that is the part that hurts the most, because the national wins list may never be corrected. The SEC wins list, maybe...

But to me those effects are more psychological.

BUT the program must still move forward. I STILL contend that losing scholarships would have a MUCH more harmful effect on the team going forward than vacating/forfeiting games.

How do forfeits impact the performance of the team on the field NOW?

How do they impact Saban's recruiting and coaching efforts NOW?

Forcing a school to vacate wins is like pouring a glass of water into the ocean. Back in the late 1970's, Oklahoma was forced to "vacate" several wins due to NCAA sanctions. Then Nebraska coach Tom Osborne laughed when he heard that one of the "vacated" wins was against his team. He stated "the final score was 38-10, so the NCAA can make Oklahoma vacate it all they want to. Oklahoma still whipped our @sses up and down the field".

Depends on how the NCAA evaluated our investigation, of which they had on-scene people working along side UA compliance and Supply Store employees. Once we identified the student-athletes involved, all were suspended and later the NCAA reinstated eligibility.

When the NCAA report comes down within a few weeks or sooner, we will receive some probation. It is expected that we may get 2-3 years probation, NO sanctions, a possible fine and maybe some wins vacated.

It basically means we will be on parole.

It will not be the end of the world and is very manageable.

Much like Oklahoma this past year.

Roll Tide!

What would be the basis for vacating wins? Did Bama use inelegible players?

Vacating wins will be a HUGE disaster. Bama already should be credited with 807 on the field victories...if Bama has to vacate Shula's 10-win season and the 6 wins from 2006 and some of Saban's wins...it makes a mess of Bama's all time record, a mess of Saban's record while at Alabama, and makes Shula's career record even worse.

It will take Bama another two or three seasons to just get back to 800...while our competitors are already chasing 900!!!

VACATING ANY VICTORIES IS DISASTROUS!!!

I agree with my comments from that night.

They still apply.
