To lose almost 20 victories would be an unmitigated disaster. I had rather take 5 years of probation and lose 6 scholarships than to lose those victories.

It will not be the end of the world and is very manageable.

Much like Oklahoma this past year.

McElroy is JPW II. McElwain is the reason this offense stinks.

We will file an Appeal if any wins are vacated.

relax, NO ONE knows what the NCAA's ruling is going to be. you can look at prior cases but no one knows any details about what their ruling will be on this case. just ask Cecil Hurt.

I have it on good authority that they will give us the death penalty, vacate every win that we've ever had, take back all the national championships, dig up the bear and urinate on his remains, and then poke Nick Saban in the eye. Count on it.

Yes the fans do get probation! I'm still reeling from the probation in 1995! I have to pay a fine every six months to the NCAA (cashier's check or money order only), and must attend NCAA compliance seminars. It varies from fan to fan, but it's usually pretty severe. Add the 2002 probation with the 1995 probation, and the upcoming probation, and I'm in deep sh*t!!!

Forfeits and vacating wins used to bother me, but don't anymore. Why?

Because all it really does is change what's written "on paper." Yes, the record books will show fewer wins, and the media will credit Alabama with fewer wins, but that doesn't really change what happened on the field.

Do forfeiting wins affect the team's performance GOING FORWARD? I don't think so. Will the 2009 team's record and the 2010 team's record, and so on, be any different if games from 2005-06-07 are forfeited?

Yes, it may hurt psychologically to see the records listed differently, but remember, it's really only "on paper."

They can't change what you know in your mind happened in those games.

If the NCAA gave Saban a choice of penalties and he had to choose between (1) losing 10 scholarships or (2) giving up 20 wins on paper, which one do you think he would choose? (I know that's not the way they do it, but I'm throwing out the hypothetical to make a point).

The problems with that theory are multiple:

Many Bama fans cannot even remember how many games Bama won in 1993.

Opponents fans will never know the truth and just laugh at Bama about the records.

Future Bama fans will not know or understand what happened and will accept the claims from Bama opponents.

The official NCAA records will reflect the fact that Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, etc. are racing away on the all time victories list and Alabama will never, ever be able to catch up due to vacated wins.

Bama lies within the dire possibility of falling to #2 on the SEC all time winningest teams list behind Tennessee.

No amount of "knowing" who won will ever matter officially.

We were in the probation window when the textbook case surfaced. That's the biggest issue in the case. If we had not been on probation at the time, the case would have been resolved through summary deposition (in-house) and the NCAA would not be involved except for approving our self-inspection/corrective actions.
