Pretty sure you could find work in Huntsville. Check out the research park website for a list of employers and go to the websites for job listings: Link

Also, usajobs.gov if you haven't already.

I'm working on my Ph.D. in Applied Math at UAB, and need a temporary job with decent pay to help support my family for about 1 year until I can finish up my dissertation. I had a fellowship, but took too long, so the department cut off my support.

I taught college math courses for 3 years, (Saleem Rasheed's older brother was in 1 of them--very smart student and hard worker) and have about 5 years experience tutoring Mathematics. My work experience outside teaching/tutoring is fairly minimal other than short-term manual labor jobs (which I will be happy to consider).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, whether you want to recommend a job or steer some tutoring clients my way (I can provide references from former students if needed).

Anywhere within a couple of hours of Birmingham is an acceptable location, but I prefer to stay in Birmingham.

By the way, great idea for a thread, TP. What do you think about making it into a sticky? This is a pretty important service.

Does the Air Force hire mathematicians? If so, I might look into that when I finish my Ph.D.
