My car is doing something funky the last 2 days, and I'm a bit concerned. Basically, when I accelerate, and it seems to happen in the 35-50 mph range, it briefly, sputters, like it is running out of gas or something. It only does it briefly, maybe 2 seconds at most, then seems to be fine.

I'm guessing maybe it has something to do with the fuel injectors??? I know very little about cars, other than the basics, like changing a flat, filling the car with gas, starting it, stopping it, turning on the headlights, things like that.
Maybe the Johnson rod has gone bad?????

Anybody have a clue what it is, and what the prognosis might be, how long to get it fixed.
Should I just buy a new car Big Grin??? Things like that. It's 2001 Mustang, v-6, if that helps any.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, before I take it to a mechanic and get screwed in the wallet. Big Grin

First thing: check your transmission fluid level.

EDIT: No, I am not a mechanic!

Check your spark plugs. Same thing happened to me years ago when I had an Explorer and during Christmas, my husband had the same thing going on with his F150. It was the spark plugs with him as well. I replaced all of mine when it happened. My husband replaced two but ended up replacing a third and no problems since!

On that year model car, if its anything at all serious, it will have the MIL light on very soon.
Soon as that happens a quick computer scan will point you in the right direction.

My truck is doing the same thing. Sounds like a transmission problem, that is what I was told. Something called shutter???

Check your fuel filter.
Also a little gas treatment may help just to clean the injectors.

It's a fuel pump or injector issue.

dont mess with the tranny, those guys are nuts, no way its a tranny if it goes away.

You should be able to reset your fuel pump, bust out your owners manual.

if your feeling brave you can test your fuel pump, it is near the firewall on the drivers side, loosen a line and see if it squirts, or you might even have a release valve you can push instead.

Usually you can hear your fuel pump cut on before you crank the car.

do you have bat ears or something?

I am gonna go check that next time I crank up.

I'm gonna feel stupid if I have been playing with the lines all these years to check a fuel pump.

Even if it kicks on doesnt mean its pumping though.

but you're right, that would be a good starting point.

His is obviously working, but perhaps not efficiently enough to deliver the proper amounts at that speed.

I had another though. It may be electronic, those fords are funny. He want to disconnect the battery and let the computer recalibrate.

Sounds like you have cylinder or 2 misfiring, mine was doing the same exact thing. I suspected that I had this problem a few weeks ago. I took it to Autozone and they confirmed it with the little computer tester thingie. I changed the plugs and wires and it runs like a champ now.

Yeah the electronics on a car can be a *****.It may be something as simple as a fuel filter though. If it get just a little trash in it,it can make the car run like crap.
My vote is gonna be the filter or something to do with the injectors.
