Teen Angel - Mark Dinning
- Collector's Choice Music MSD 35800
- peak Billboard position # 1 in 1960
- Words and Music by Jean Surrey & Red Surrey

Teen angel, teen angel, teen angel, ooh, ooh
That fateful night the car was stalled upon the railroad track
I pulled you out and we were safe, but you went running back
CHORUS
Teen angel, can you hear me?
Teen angel, can you see me?
Are you somewhere up above
And I am still your own true love?
What was it you were looking for that took your life that night?
They said they found my high school ring clutched in your fingers tight
CHORUS
Just sweet sixteen, and now you're gone
They've taken you away.
I'll never kiss your lips again
They buried you today
CHORUS
Teen angel, teen angel, answer me, please

------

Oh where oh were could my baby be
The lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I'll leave this world

We were out on a date in my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road
Straight ahead
A car was stalled the engine was dead
I couldn't stop
So I swerved to the right
I'll never forget the sound that night
The screamin tires
The busting glass
The Painfull scream that I heard last.

Oh where oh were could my baby be
The lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I'll leave this world

When I woke up
The rain was pouring down
There were people standing all around
Something warm falling into my eyes
But some how I found my baby that night
I lifted her head
she looked at me and said
Hold me darling just alittle while
I held her close
I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love I knew I had missed
but now she's gone
even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night

Oh where oh were could my baby be
The lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

Does anybody recall a song in the 1960s or 1970s about two kids who played war together and then one eventually joined the military and was killed? That was a sad one, but I can't recall the title or words.

At the end of the song there were trucks lined around the block.. I didn't cry, but my dad's family were all truckers and he was bawling...

"Teddy Bear" is the name of the song you're talking about. Don't remember who sang it though.

Some Lyrics From "Don't Cry Daddy"

Why are children always first
To feel the pain and hurt the worst
Its cruel somehow, it just don't seem right
And everytime I cry I know
It hurts my little children so
and I wonder, will it be the same tonight...

Don't Cry Daddy...Daddy please don't cry
You still have me a little Tommy
Together we'll find a brand new mommy
Daddy, Daddy please laugh again
Daddy ride us on your back again
Oh Daddy Please Don't Cry

"Sam Stone" by John Prine.

The saddest line:
Then he traded his house that he bough on the GI Bill...
For a flag-draped casket on a local heroes hill.

Since we're doing lyrics now, I figured I'd add the ones for "Alone":

Blues Traveler - Alone Lyrics

I said "I love you"
She began to cry
She said she needed a friend
I said "I'll try"
Soon we'd say nothing
Somehow I never wondered why

You see, she left me
She left me
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone

I'd loved her always
She didn't know
I tried patience
Let a friendship grow
I tried to keep her
That's what made her go

You see, she left me
She left me
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone

Beauty and the beast
Was how it seemed to be
A love like hers
Ain't meant for guys like me
Some call me crazy
Some politely call me free
But either way you see

You see, she left me
She left me
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone

I'm trying to forget you but it just won't work
Think I'm losing my mind, think I'm going berserk
I love you with a passion that you just don't know
And I kinda wish right now that I was telling you so
I could rant, or rave, or play some little game
But when I look into your eyes, it all seems the same
That you weren't meant for me and that's a sad but true fact
Now I don't care how I look and don't care how I act
'Cause you set me free
I'm a man among men
But when I think of what I missed it starts all again

Now alone in the darkness of each new day
My heart is on its own
I wanna rip it from my chest and throw it away
Watch this bassman take me home

A low branch
Touching the water
Feels the currents take
A mighty
River bends her
But she won't break
No she won't
No she won't break

I said a candle's
Flame she dances
When a sudden
Tempest blows
She dwindles and dims
Against the cold, cold wind
And then she grows
And then she glows
I said she grows

I may never understand her
Her secret is not to know
Nothing for me to do with or for or to
But I just love to watch her grow
I said I love to watch her grow

I guess some day
Love will soon be here
And maybe then
I'll see things more clear
I guess I got excited
Cause it felt so near
And

You see, she left me
She left me
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone

But I know I'd give my life
Just to hold her now
And who knows
I might see her around

Hopes can always go up
Tears can only come down

You see, she left me
She left me
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone
I'm alone

I'm not a country music fan, so I don't have as many sad songs to choose from as you country music fans do. But I would definitely say "Wildfire", by Michael Martin Murphey is a sad, sort of haunting song, especially with the music. Awesome song either way.

quote:
She comes down from Yellow Mountain
On a dark, flat land she rides
On a pony she named Wildfire
With a whirlwind by her side
On a cold Nebraska night

Oh, they say she died one winter
When there came a killing frost
And the pony she named Wildfire
Busted down its stall
In a blizzard he was lost

She ran calling Wildfire [x3]
By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow
There's been a hoot-owl howling by my window now
For six nights in a row
She's coming for me, I know
And on Wildfire we're both gonna go

We'll be riding Wildfire [x3]

On Wildfire we're gonna ride
Gonna leave sodbustin' behind
Get these hard times right on out of our minds
Riding Wildfire
