I am only 5 minutes into the Ron PAul South Carolina debate. What was it that made you change your mind? Just curious.

The guy is a crackpot that makes surprisingly good sense occasionally.

It seems as though they all have a hidden agenda and try to talk around it.

I have never cared for isolationism, either. But IMHO, I think he was talking about non-interventionism which I also do not believe in. I was a huge supporter of the liberation of Kuwait and the invasion of Afghanistan. But I did not support the invasion of Iraq but believe now that we are there we need to see it through. And we are definitely not to blame for 9/11 or any other terriost attack carried out by al-Qaeda or any other Islamic radical group or by Timothy McVeigh and/or an anti government militia attack on the federal building in Oklahoma City. But I think people need to understand that our policies, whether you support those policies or not led to these attacks. In no way should that be construed as blaming ourshelves for those attacks.

well, i can say, I was initially a fan of his policy, but he just went too far.

libertarians tend to do that.

He wont be getting my vote.

I actually like Ron Paul. He's the only real conservative in the race. He is against the Iraq war and seems to be the only guy committed to paying off our 9 trillion national debt. The Democrats want more social programs here, and the Republicans (not including Paul) want a few trillion to go anywhere but here.

I never thought I would say this during the '08 elections, but I might be voting for a Republican and his name is Ron Paul. He really impressed me the other night when he did an interview on the Bill Maher show. He used reason instead of the typical Republican "patriotism" BS.

I will need to investigate him a little more before I declare my full support for him. He seems too good to be true.

Ron Paul has no chance of winning the nomination, but he's certainly not a moron. He makes more rational sense than all of the other candidates put together. And what he said about the root causes of our current trouble with the fundamentalist Muslims is completely accurate. U.S. foreign policy for most of the 20th century did one thing after another to enrage the Arabs. If the U.S. government would quit running around the world trying to tell other countries what to do, we would make far fewer enemies. The absurd notion that "they hate us because of our freedom" is laughable. They hate us because we've consistently done things in their lands that offend and enrage them. If some other world power stationed troops in our country, the American people would eventually resent it, too. That doesn't make their response moral or acceptable, but it DOES go a long way toward explaining WHY it happened. The 9/11 Commission Report made that point, and it's well-accepted by people who actually know anything about the history of the area. But most Americans today seem more interested in showy jingoism instead of facts. Speaking the facts doesn't make Paul a moron. It does, however, make it impossible for him to be elected president, because the truth is one of those things that voters don't want to hear.

While I agree that our foreign policies have at times agravated the situation, that in no way means that they were all wrong. The Idea that if we pulled all our people out they will leave us alone, is ridiculous. As long as we aid and support other countries such as Israel, we will be a target. If we leave and just them go at it, how long will it be before a nuclear country is taken over or North Korea decides to sell someone over there a nuke. I for one sure hope that if our government starts murdering it's own people, somebody will help us.
