i agree .. me thinks we need to forget about the ones who are here for right now and build that fence/wall down there and beef up personnel along the border ... nothing we do will matter unless we gain control of our border ...

Sure, there is a $5,000 fine for some of the 15 million or so amnestied illegals – provided the law is enforced and fines collected! The law isn’t enforced today, so why are we expected to believe it will be under this bill? And do we really need 400,000 new foreign guest workers who will also bring in their spouses? Their wives, of course, will have babies and there is nothing in this bill to prevent them from becoming automatic US citizens and further draining our welfare and health systems. The Heritage Foundation estimates that this misguided bill would cost me and my fellow tax payers $2 TRILLION dollars!!!

I urge you to support legislation that has as its priorities – the enforcement of our borders; the apprehension and deportation of illegal aliens; and the punishment of companies that hire illegal aliens. Nobody who came here illegally should be rewarded with anything but a trip back to their home country and a permanent ban on ever entering the US again.

Your thoughts?

I 100% agree. There is no such thing as a fiscal conservative anymore. This was a "bi-partisan" attempt to gain votes on both sides while keeping big business rich. In the process, America has sent the message that it is Ok to break the law as long as enough people do it.

The bill stipulates that a Mexican citizen in America gets amnesty if he can prove that he has been illegally employed for X number of years in America. My queston is this: when they show who has been employing them, what happens to the employer who has been hiring them tax free? The obvious answer is nothing.

This is a win for criminals from the poorest immigrant to the richest contruction company owner.

Usually "bi-partisan" is a good word, but in this case it was bullsh*t!! Somebody should have stood up for the hard working Americans who are paying the 2 trillion these illegals will cost us, but no one did. Not republicans, and not democrats.

Here is my plan. Iraq is lost and everyone knows we will be leaving unsuccessfully in a short time. So, pull out of Iraq just one month before planned, and use the 30 billion we would save from that month and use it to kick every illegal out, and build a massive stone wall from the Pacific to the Gulf.

Problem solved.

After that, instead of using the money no longer going to Iraq for new social programs, how about lets start to pay off our NINE TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wait, our Iraq money is expanding the debt, so that won't help to pay it off.

So, the ultimate solution will be to take America's lazy that are getting welfare checks and put them to work doing what Mexicans used to do. Want your check? Get your ass out of bed then. That's what they did during the depression, so what has changed about a human being over the past century that has made it Ok to sit on your ass and leech off of good people?

It's hard to bash an ethnic community for wanting to come to the United States. I can understand why they'd want to come here. I know it's affecting the economy, but those people just want opportunities and since they're close enough to actually cross the border on foot, I think if I were them, I'd be doing the same thing.
The problem is created by employers that choose to pay employees "under the table". If we crack down on that and there's no work for illegal immigrants, they'll all be forced to try to find work legally...and the only way to do that is to become a citizen.

I agree with this also. I am not blaming Mexicans for coming. I would come too if I were in their shoes. I am blaming our politicians for letting them come.

Hey dumbass- before you talk about welfare, why don't you actually look at the statistics...over 70 percent of people of welfare have one or more jobs- so I don't think your plan of making them "get off their asses" would really work.

I just think it's funny that you guys care about all this immigrants that are doing jobs that NO AMERICAN will do. You guys gonna go out and start picking tomatoes in the middle of the summer? Hell no - these guys work the nastiest, hardest jobs for cheap and yet you people hate on them. Our country would not run without these "illegals."

And whoever said we need to expand that stupid fence- yea...that's a good idea. Let's actually just put a freaking dome over the US so no one can ever get in unless our holier than thou, isolationist, pure-bred white society approves of them.

First off, I never said that all people who are getting welfare checks are lazy or jobless. I was referring to only the lazy welfare recipients, "dumbass."

Second, I don't give a **** how hard a Mexican works, he still can't come into my country illegally and then wave his Mexican flag around to protest the way my country treats him when he is here illegally in the first place.

Your dome comment shows you have no credible argument or logic. You are just trying to stir **** up.

My hatred of illegals has nothing to do with their race and everything to do with them illegally being here.

As for your comment about no American wanting to do "Mexican labor" my point is to force able-bodied welfare recipients with no jobs to work the fields just like they did during the depression on national parks and government projects.

Now tell me one good reason why we should allow people from other nations to break our laws.

Bush and the republicans want a unified North America, that is his New World Order. Anybody who voted for this Bozo should re-evaluate their priorities.

If this practice was widespread, it'd be a big deal but, fortunately, most illegal immigrants are hired on fake id's and fake social security numbers. Therefore, they pay into the system but they will never get anything out of it. In a sense, legalizing them will cause more of a negative hit on the 'system' because people who are now paying in with no hope of ever getting anything out will now be entitled to their share, same as everyone else.

The only way to solve the immigration problem is to allow enough people into the country to satisfy the demand for jobs that our economy produces. Nothing else will work, not building a wall, not deploying the army, not penalizing employers, etc. As long as there are jobs to be had and as long as there's a supply of labor willing and able to take those jobs, the employees will find a way to get here.

We need to adjust the immigration quotas so that they realistically match the jobs growth in our economy, year to year and then all the problems will illegal immigrants will go away and the border patrol officers can concentrate on stopping the really bad and dangerous people that could try to sneak across the border.

I doubt that realistic quotas will ever be set because people are too afraid of being overhwelmed by too many brown skinned people who talk a funny language. If they were white, english speakers from Canada, no one would even care about this.

The reason Reagan's amnesty didn't work is because the other component of his plan, adjustment of the immigration quotas from Latin America, was not followed through.

This new bill will do the same thing unless the immigration quotas are adjusted to realistic levels. In 10 or 20 years, we will have another bunch of 10-12 million illegals and we will still be importing 400-500k of them per year because the quotas are out of whack and our economy demands more workers the the 1 thing that Mexico has that we really want and need is workers for our economy. No matter what we do, unless we adjust the quotas, we will be back in the same fix down the road.
