I just saw on CNN that there was a disagreement on "The View" recently between the conservative woman and Whoopi Goldberg.

Goldberg believed that the right to use the word "******" had been earned by black people. The white conservative woman disagreed.

So, which one is right and which one is wrong? Or is there even a right or wrong as far as this issue is concerned?

I don't know why you'd want to "earn" the right to use a word that has degraded your people for hundreds of years.

Unless it's some kind of strange reverse psychology type thing, like when people say "bad" to mean "good".

I believe the word being so taboo is retarded. How anyone ever came to take it as an insult is beyond me. It's merely a form of the Latin word for black, and was used in that form for centuries, not as a derogatory term, but simply as a way of describing black people. Conversely, almost all possible origins of the term cracker, are slightly derogatory, yet it never became a taboo. And while I have never used the term, I do so mainly because I know it might offend someone and most other people will view it as racist, not because the word is inherently racist, but simply because such a big deal is made of it.

good idea They have earned nothing if whites can't use it they can't if they can use it whites can use it simple as that.

I thought everyone had the "right" to use that word if they wanted to... I didn't know you earned "rights" in this country...

Now, having the "right" to use a word or do something doesn't mean that other folks will not think you are stupid for doing so...

What is the meaning of being politically correct? This seems to be the source for everyones extreme sensitivity toward so many issues.
