You could have a lot of discussions from this. One of the biggest things that stood out to me was the commitment of his wife. Talk about for better or worse...

bensa, I am not disagreeing w/ you. It is a tough call for a family. What if there is the chance you could come back, like this man, would you prefer not to be in the coma for that long? Again, just asking for clarification.

if there was a decent chance I could come back, I would hope my wife would wait. I know if there was a decent chance of her coming back, I would be waiting.

Well, he wasn't in a full blown coma... he was awake enough to swallow, and try to speak - I'm sure that gave his wife some hope that he might recover somewhat - but it's still quite amazing that after 19 years of basically being asleep, you can wake up and remember most everything and be rehabilitated.
