It is under the Mediterranean Sea and rumored to have been cut by a boat anchor.
Most people don't realized we rely on undersea cables for vital communications. Just think, there was once a cable from the US to Europe for teletype messages. Just one terminal to another.
The last time they cut one of these in the Middle East it too 45 days to repair. I imagine this could impact communications for our troops being able to call home and some internet service.
