The largest scale potassium permanganate injection event ever is now complete.

Since June we drilled 45 injection wells and mixed on-site and injected over 600,000 gallons of 40+ mg/l potassium permanganate.

We have had 2 minor spills (<10 gal, no impact), no injuries, finished 3 days ahead of schedule and below budget.

As the field effort leader I would like to thank and give full credit to my entire crew for their tireless effort.

the real work starts monday, cleanup.

Now that's a turn-about of 180 degrees from the crews you had up in New York or whereever you were.

Congrats.

Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is used primarily to control taste and odors, remove color, control
biological growth in treatment plants, and remove iron and manganese. In a secondary role,
potassium permanganate may be useful in controlling the formation of THMs and other DBPs by
oxidizing precursors and reducing the demand for other disinfectants (Hazen and Sawyer, 1992).
The mechanism of reduced DBPs may be as simple as moving the point of chlorine application
further downstream in the treatment train using potassium permanganate to control taste and odors,
color, algae, etc. instead of chlorine. Although potassium permanganate has many potential uses as
an oxidant, it is a poor disinfectant.

Congrats Smith! That's a nice feeling. I am sure your boss will be pleased as well.

After clean up, do you know what your next job will be?

Congrats. Sounds like quite an accomplishment, even though I have no clue what you're talking about.
