I didnt go hunting this morning because I was supposed to get my kids early this morning.My dad went and hunted where Ive been hunting all year.Ive been hunting the same deer all year long.I saw him back in the summer and I knew he was pretty big.I thought I saw him friday morning but I wasnt sure if it was him or not because I didnt see his head,just his body and he was huge.Anyway my dad saw him this morning about 300 yards away.He said he didnt feel comfortable making that shot with his .45/70 so he didnt take the shot.Dad said he was at least an 8-point and that his antlers were at least a foot and a half high.He said he was the biggest deer he has seen in those woods all his life and he has hunted down there for close to 50 years.I knew the deer was big but I didnt know he was THAT big.
Im going to hunt him hard for the rest of the year.The rut is just now kicking in down here so maybe he will mess up and come with range. Im pumped up right now and want to go hunting this evening but Im going to spend some time with my son.You can bet your butt that Ill be back out there monday though. Well I have to take it.Its primitive weapon season right now.I know it shoots because Ive cleaned it and shot it since the "accident".If he is within 150 yards I have no worries. Mr.A killed an 8 pt right after we got married.
He was driving down the road in his work truck, at that time he worked for the water dept and was reading water meters.. He saw it lying/rising from some brush so he went down the road, knocked on the door of a man he knows and borrowed a gun then went back and shot it. He had it mounted but when he and 'the guys' went to Florida last year to the game I gave it away.. LOL... it had already been moved to the garage. We did have one in the middle of deer season.The idiots that run the MS Department of Wildlife finally got something right when they let the southern part of the state hunt until Feb 15.Its only primitive weapon though but its better than nothing. well regardless...get w/JB...and change this law. I think a black powder season is fine but I'd rather have my 243/308 at times...just sayin...I'm off to a dinner engagement ben. still good luck, I hope he's still there come monday...

bensa,I saw the biggest deer I have ever seen in the woods this year.He was on te edge of a tree line,licking a branch at abiut 300 yards.Itwas just about dark and I could pick him up with my binoculars but couldnt see him in my scope(to dark),then he just put his nose to the ground and I guess went after a doe.Here is where it gets sickening.I had found a rub line on one side of our farm land and it was straight across where I saw him the first time.One day about two weeks ago I was heading out to hunt,so I put out some standing doe urine,and grunted as I was getting into my stand.Well,just about dark,he stuck his head out,just his head,but the smell of that standing doe had his attention.He eased out and was staying on the tree line.I was about to mess on myself,because he was at least a 10pt.,he turn and gave me a shot.I took it.I got down to go get him.Guess what no deer , no blood no nothing.I looked all ver for him and a sign and nothing.Well to make a long story short my scope was way way off.The weird thing is that day I went to the store where I bought the scope a year before and asked the guy how to lock it in.The guy told to do something and I did it,well come to find out the next day,I went back and the same guy said that the scope I bought could not be locked in,so when I took my knobbs off and turned them it messed me up big time.I really do not like that scope that well its a tact scope.I know this was long but I guess I wanted to share with a fellow hunter,I didnt get the one I was after this year either.
