just a guess - but I think it grew from not having many positive aspects about Alabama football to talk about for so many years. As the pride and support for Alabama football declined - I think Alabama fans were drawn to one of the positive aspects of our team - which was a strong conference.

Don't all conferences as a whole think they are the best? I think we all see the Conference commercials during sporting events touting the conference. Not exclusive to 1 conference.

I think the roots of this go way back. The old timers talk about how Bama winning in the Rose Bowl put the South on the map. Athletics is one way in which universities/states/regions compete with each other.

I can pull for other SEC teams. I was rooting for UT Monday night but I still slept well when they lost Razzer

Since CTT and AU started counting their fingers I have simply just stopped watching them. Other than when we play them I have not seen a AU game in over 3 years. Apathy is a powerful weapon.

I remember it really starting after the media and the big 10 idiots said UF had no business in the NCG.

After that game was the first time I noticed the chant.

I'd like to give a shout out to Seagrams Gin, 'cause I drink it and they payin me for it.

i ahve always pulled for the sec and teams on our schedule for the obvious reasons. when we beat them we look better. if everyone on our schedule loses every game how would we look even if we went undefeated. probably wouldn't get much love. it just makes sense. when bama beats auburn i want auburn tobe undefeated. it makes our win look better and we get to take something away from auburn.

a pimps love is very different from that of a square

" i love it how ole tenn's fans want to get rid of phil fulmer...with all their crying, 'hell lets get rid of phil, lets get rid of phil'...oh!!! thats all i hear.....it ain't phil ya gotta worry about, its your damn players ya gotta worry about...now phils just part of the equation, he's part of the pie.................f**k it!!! get rid of phil, hell boycott his azz is al, i can tell ya" - cowboy1979

i think part of it came from the BCS. to get into the title game, you want your conference to be the best. If we were the ACC, and LSU had 2 losses, do you think they would be playing in the MNC game? When your league is thought of only having 1 or 2 teams, the other teams dont go to high bowl games. When your league is thought to be stacked from top to bottom, your chances of getting more BCS teams rise.

True. I have to admit that I chanted "LSU" when we knocked AU out of the SEC Championship. I'm thinking that was the "wrong way Bo" game. Yeah, I'm that old.

Alabama, and Alabama ONLY. I rarely cheer for other SEC teams, and NEVER for TN or Auburn.

Unlimited potential in 2008 and beyond.

You don't have to LIKE the other teams. It's just in our best interest if our conference beats up on other conferences. For example, do you think a one loss ACC team would go to the NC game over a one loss SEC team? No. Why, because they can't beat anyone outside of their conference. In fact, I'd bet a two loss SEC team would have a chance of getting the nod over a one loss ACC or big east team.

That is exactly why you should hope the SEC wins every out of conference game. And like it or not, how those SEC teams do this year affects how they're viewed next year and even the year after. So, if TN, AU, FL, etc. kick ass in OOC games THIS year, it could actually help US (Bama) get into a NC game down the road.

Polls also care about how teams are finishing towards the end, no matter of the record of Conference vs Conference play. That isn't ever taken into consideration. Florida didn't get in the NC game in 2006 because of great out of conference wins in the SEC...they got in because nobody wanted to see OSU play Michigan...me included.

Rooting for SEC teams to win is ridiculous. Having them win, hurts recruiting and hurts Alabama becoming a dynasty again. Traditionally, if an Elite team like Alabama, will go to an NC if they are undefeated, have the perception as a great 1 loss team, and NOT because they play in the SEC.

If you think Alabama is hurting for recruits then you must not have noticed the 08 class, or the list they've already got for 09.
I honestly don't think the recruits care about the out-of-conference games that much. We lost to La Monroe last year, and still managed to get the #1 recruiting class in the nation.

If all the other SEC teams lost out of conference games, the SEC would eventually lose it's credibility. Just like Hawaii and Boise, they got the BCS bashers but they didnt get to the NC game because of their conference. OSU gets there cause their conference USED to be good, and they sometimes pull off surprises (i.e. Michigan beating Florida last year). USC gets in cause they play big teams out-of-conference and usually beat up on all of them.

I really don't have SEC pride, but I do think the SEC champ should automatically go to the BCS championship game.

I also wish the Vols and Auburn would lose every game they play

No, Alabama isn't hurting with recruits thanks to Saban and thanks to our tradition. But, rooting for our rivals is just silly. It has no effect on the BCS, and the SEC's credibility isn't taking a hit. The Big 10's cred is being lost because of the lack of talent outside of Michigan and Ohio State, and the occasionally good Penn St. 2 of those 3 teams have or had a coach that stayed longer then they are welcome....Big 10 didn't lose its cred because they lost out of conference games...they lost it due to the lack of recruiting talent outside the Top 3 of the big ten.

People who are just SEC pride people fail to understand that conference power rankings always change, and always will. With having such great coaches in the SEC, and most all great recruiters, its hurts for our rivals to win as many games as possible.

I wouldn't call it pride or anything like that, but it's a cocky helluva good way to run down another conference after you just beat the crap out of one of their teams. It's swagger. I think the SEC chants are awesome but that does not mean I have to cheer for our rivals.

I mean LSU was the National Champion and I must admit, I HATE THAT and know they would hate it if we were. I'll stick with BAMA pride and let the SEC take care of itself.

I hate it too, but it's better than USC or OSU winning it.
