Help me fellow Bama fans, but have we always been so passionate about our conference? It seems to me that Bama fans might be more passionate about the SEC than other teams in the conference. I know most Auburn, Tennessee, and Miss. St. fans ALWAYS cheer for whoever we're playing. I was trying so hard to cheer for Tennessee Monday night but just couldn't do it. I felt like I had somehow betrayed the SEC but then thought, "who cares?" Tennessee would be screaming for any other team but Alabama. I felt better about my outlandish screaming for UCLA. I just don't really get the SEC pride. I mean LSU was the National Champion and I must admit, I HATE THAT and know they would hate it if we were. I'll stick with BAMA pride and let the SEC take care of itself.

Thank goodness. I couldn't agree more. It makes absolutely ZERO sense to pull for other teams in the SEC... especially now that there are so many coaches who are proven winners and know how to recruit. We, as Bama fans, need every other single SEC team to lose every single game they play.

I agree. It was weird that our crowd was chanting S-E-C louder than most of our other cheers Saturday night. There's definately some benefit to being in the best conference, but I usually cheer against several other SEC teams.

I think we've shifted our pride over the hell that has been the last ten years, away from our broken program and to the conference we're a part of. You know how the saying goes, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em". Sad, but that's the way I see it.

Rivals have always been rivals. I don't get the whole "SEC Pride" thing. Having our rivals wins, helps them in recruiting. Everyone knows the SEC is top dog right now. But many delusional fans don't think the SEC is getting enough media coverage, or accolades...which is about as wrong as a fan could be.

I think it has to do with the failed logic that the media, etc didn't get the SEC enough props. They have been for a while now. Remember the SEC wasn't always as tough and every conference goes thru stout and lean periods.

I think the SEC fans thumping their chests are pretty lame. I only root for 2 teams....Alabama and Ohio State and my rivals Big 10 or SEC are rivals 365 days a year.

I will never pull for Auburn, Mississippi State, LSU, or Tennessee. The rest are kind of irrelevant.

Like Saturday.

I want Auburn to be shut down and thrashed by Southern Mississippi. If they have doubts about their offense, it benefits every other team in the West.

And then our conference can be talked about the way we talk about Ohio State in the Big 10?

Where does that get us in the polls if we are beating teams that are winless?

USC does it. Hell, USC loses to teams that are under .500 and yet they still make it to the Rose Bowl.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong.

You don't have to LIKE the other teams. It's just in our best interest if our conference beats up on other conferences. For example, do you think a one loss ACC team would go to the NC game over a one loss SEC team? No. Why, because they can't beat anyone outside of their conference. In fact, I'd bet a two loss SEC team would have a chance of getting the nod over a one loss ACC or big east team.

That is exactly why you should hope the SEC wins every out of conference game. And like it or not, how those SEC teams do this year affects how they're viewed next year and even the year after. So, if TN, AU, FL, etc. kick ass in OOC games THIS year, it could actually help US (Bama) get into a NC game down the road.

Polls also care about how teams are finishing towards the end, no matter of the record of Conference vs Conference play. That isn't ever taken into consideration. Florida didn't get in the NC game in 2006 because of great out of conference wins in the SEC...they got in because nobody wanted to see OSU play Michigan...me included.

Rooting for SEC teams to win is ridiculous. Having them win, hurts recruiting and hurts Alabama becoming a dynasty again. Traditionally, if an Elite team like Alabama, will go to an NC if they are undefeated, have the perception as a great 1 loss team, and NOT because they play in the SEC.

So explain why Southern Cal. and Ohio State are always rated so highly. Their respective conference are weak....

Pride...I wouldn't go that far. About the dollars, yes. Would I rather the SEC get bowl money than the ACC or PAC-10, yes.

SEC pride: nonsense, irrelevant & ridicuous for Alabama football.
