Orvis said the Alabama fans at the bowl "spit on us. They treated us like dirt before and during the game. They were screaming racial remarks totally out of line.

"It was all because we had black players on our team."

Alabama had no black players — that season or any season before. ''

I was there and I saw or heard nothing of the sort during my time in Memphis. I'm not denying that it happened, but the mood was not really intense that day. Alabama had played against integrated teams before and it just didn't seem like a big deal.

We were more concerned with our team and their lack of execution. The only grumbling that I heard came from misguided souls that thought Coach Bryant had lost his touch. Boy, were they wrong.

Gee, I was a Freshman at the game and I didn't realize I didn't get the memo about the game being a black vs white issue. I missed reading about it in the paper also, and that would have been headline news! But I guess whatever helps you sleep at night or makes you feel better about yourself.

Foolish me..I thought it was just two college teams playing football with a smelly buffalo running around tearing up the field and leaving "presents" the band got to slip on...at least they cleaned up the big mess ole Ralphie left in the end zone. As I remember, the refs were not amused, and the teams were not happy about the prospect of falling on "buffalo paddies"

You disappoint me Hannibal. With a little more research I`m sure you could have found some old lynching photos to post. Better yet, why not bury the white man guilt trip.

I read somewhere in another post where a poster was awarded the dumbest post of the year award. He jumped the gun. You have pulled into the lead.

Didn't Da Bear make history for not being racially sensitive when choosing his team?
