This according to AM 690 Sports radio station out of Birmingham Alabama last night around 5:30 pm C.S.T.

Ray Mellick, of the Birmingham News, who is also a radio personality with JOX 690, read the statement at approximately 5:30 p.m. last night.

This plays into the rumors that Shula will be fired this week and a new coach will be named next week.

This also suports that rumors that Alabama has been talking with a head coach about contracts, money (Spurrier), etc......

The BOT, and Mal must feel good enough about there talks with Spurrier to go ahead and push the motion to Fire to Prez Witt.

Rumors have surfaced that Brother Oliver and Steve Spurrier have talked about rejoining efforts at the University of Alabama and is all but official. The rumors also go as far to say Mike Shula will be released of his duties as the head football coach at Alabama and Steve Spurrier will be named the new coach next week, possibly the Friday before the SEC Championship game as was teh case when Franchionne was named. Spurrier is rumored to be stepping down Saturday following the Clemson South Carolina game. Spurrier has been asked about the Alabama position and the Miami position, but has shrugged off the question by stating he is here to win SEC championships and not outright denying the claim.

People, were there is smoke there is fire and the fire is buring hot in Columbia SC, so hot that is reaches all the way to Tuscaloosa Alabama.

Remember, it was just a few years ago when rumors swirled around Spurrier being in Alabama and being interviewed at the Brightstar restuarant in Bessemer Alabama.

It is also rumored that Spurrier is friends with Mal Moore and Paul Finebaum.

I live in Columbia, SC and NOTHING has been said about the Alabama job other than Spurrier sayin thanks and he is flattered. The only thing being mentioned is the MIAMI job, on the radio and in the news. So i don't know where you are getting this Fire in Columbia stuff about coming to Bama....wishful thinking.

Sure. And it hasn't broken anywhere else in the sports world until now, on this forum, 18 hours later.

Too many printed rebuttals to this to know whats what. I just wish we could stop w/ the rumor mongering and wait until the inept BOT's, CMM and RW make their decision. Everytime I read one of these "rumors" I start to get encouraged about the prospects of a big time HC. I dont think this BOT's actually think there is a problem. Why change? The stadium fills up every Sat and hey "We're Close" Frowner

The firing part is all but done my friends, the BOT, Mal and Witt have passed there threshhold to come out and back Shula at this point. We are walking the plank now.

The only real Question is whether or not we mess up the negotiations with Spurrier.

Well I am a graduate of UA class of 2004...thanks BS4UofA. Just because I am located in Columbia doesn't mean I am a gamecock. I am sorry that I decided to leave Alabama and take a good job opportunity. Just because I found this forum a day or two ago doesn't make me any less of knowing anything. All I did was prove that your talking points were FALSE.

Oh and this from the Mobile Register....."The future of University of Alabama football coach Mike Shula remained unclear on Monday, and multiple members of the board of trustees said no definitive decision is expected through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
University president Robert Witt is scheduled to leave town today for the Thanksgiving break, and, presumably, to give intense consideration to Shula's status."

Spurrior was spotted in Destin fl last night at a hooter of all places while the radio show Southern sports tonight was there. He declined to go on the radio and said he was there for something other than football.

Tide311, this article would back and support my posting. If you read it, it clearly says the BOT and Mal have signed off on it and now it is with Prez Witt.

Dr....I am not resisting the notion. I would personally love Spurrier at UA. All I am saying is that the Alabama notion of him coming to Coach isn't being reported here in Columbia. Only the Miami story has caught attention of the masses here.
