I guess that pretty much covers all the televised games for the weekend. Bottom line, the Iron Bowl was going to be televised regardless of what Sessions did. He deserves ZERO credit.

In looking at the link you gave us, it looks like the games for 11/29 are all "TBD". Maybe Sessions helped to insure that the Iron Bowl would be one of those "TBD". Whatever the case be, you might want to consider letting it go man.

They don't change the TBD until the week of, but I promise you the CBS game is always televised. Thank the servicemembers working for AFN not some politician who is taking credit for doing nothing.

I'll take your word for it, and I don't have a dog in this fight. I can just tell you might be stepping on some toes, walking on sacred ground. I'll back out now.

Regardless whether a politician did anything special or not- I have one of those flags that "flew over the Capitol" but I know it went-up-and-came-down with about a hundred others that day, yet my sister who worked in Washington had it done on my birthday and at the time it could only be done by request of a politician...

At any rate, ignore the article crediting it to a politician. Smile to yourself that you know this happens "all the time," I did not. My husband did not. And, snafus happen all the time, so I will take the Saban approach and not assume anything from year to year.
I will smile knowing that this year I know that it WILL happen. My husband still may not get see it- he is on patrol under water, and they can't even recieve email till surfacing. He will have about 20 emails waiting for him when he does get them, several for each quarter of the game as I give updates, just in case he's not able to see the game.

So, ignore the politician and enjoy the results. His secretary probably did it all, anyway Wink

I can't for the life of me wonder what has happened to people. You folks that always want to jump in someone's thread and make them feel like crap, when they are cleary excited about what they have posted, well...you suck. I was in the military over 18 years ago and I speak from experience too. What you need to do is quit *issing in someone's cheerios to get your jolly's and let it go. I appreciate the fact that he is excited about being able to watch the Iron Bowl. RTR!!

If you use a message board for anything other than constructive conversation or information you are not using it right. If you come to am message board thinking everyone is gonna agree with you, you are wrong. No one was jumping the topic starter. I just think its silly that a politician is taking credit for something as trivial as this.

I come to the message board to get informed about Bama and not to discredit someone's post, regardless of what my feelings are about the post. If someone wants to give a politician kudos for doing something, good for them. I really think this person was more excited for her husband and the fact he was going to watch the Iron Bowl. The part about the "politician" was just a piece of her excitement for her husband. Try being nicer to people it doesn't hurt. I think you get my point, no need to over analyze it.

I have a much different perspective.

I spent 1983-1990 stationed in Europe, and didn't get a lot of chances to either see Alabama play on TV, or hear them play on radio, because they didn't get selected....they didn't have a choice of AFN channels then. During Desert Storm & Desert Storm thngs improved and we got to see and hear quite a few Alabama games...I got to listen to Alabama lose to Louisville in the Fiesta Bowl, while wearing my Chem-Warfare suit..,.Saddam didn't stop things because of bowl games. A couple of years later, I was flying a mission over the Mediterranean Sea when Alabama beat Florida to win the SEC title in 1992 and couldn't find any info on the game until after we landed...I talked to about a dozen or so US bases over the plane's HF radio, but with no luck.

So excuse me if someone making an effort to make sure the Iron Bowl is shown, is still a big deal in my eyes. When you are thousands of miles from home, you appreciate the chances to connect with family and fiends, and the opportunity to feel like you are not that far away...as simple as it sounds, getting a chance to hear/see Alabama play football did it for me.

Without reference to the politics of this discussion and for reasons I won't detail here, I share your appeciation for efforts to connect the troops with Bama and home. I also admire and value your service to our country.

Shoot, don't even get me started on politicians (and the cost) it takes to declare a "Something" Day. Big Grin
But, with the attention the state has gotten lately because of CNS and our #1 run, I wouldn't be surprised to see more "trivial" actions in the future. Self-serving or not, actions like this generate positive publicity for the state and politicians will either generate it or jump on the bandwagon. Ho-hum.

I like these boards as I get info and points of view I had not known or considered before and it was interesting reading the comments from what I started (thanks for the support!). From other threads I've read, this one has been pretty tame regarding "jumpers" Smiler
In fact, I'm curious now and want to know more, I think I will write a letter to Jeff Sessions and get more facts on the "process."

Maybe what this thread can do now is get comments from servicemen/women abroad who were able to enjoy the game. That would be exciting to me. Just as a fan I know what's it like to not have the Iron Bowl (not in the Navy, only a Navy wife).
I lived in SC for 20 years and it was tough getting the game, radio was my best bet if I was lucky. Thanks to satellite in recent years when I was out of the country, I was able to watch it for 7 years straight, and now finally back home I can enjoy the whole year-round experience again.
My family bleeds Crimson- Thanksgiving, Christmas... those were just holidays that you worked, just another day, a phone call home if you could, string some lights on a palm tree. But on Iron Bowl Day you felt it, knew you weren't there, knew you were missing the Entire State standing still. That just does not happen anywhere else.
For everyone here I am PROUD to be a Bama Fan with you!

So, what should my subject line say? Big Grin
"Bama WINS"?
"We Beat Auburn"?
"12-0"?
"the STREAK ENDS"?
"No More Fingers!"?
"Final score ----"?
"Tub is Gone"?

I have the paper saved from the GA game, I wonder what the tagline will be for this one?
