There's a long list of cons and not many pros to be the new coach right now. Are auburn fans aware of this?

I couldn't agree more.

Bama's resurgence has cast an awfully long shadow for any AUB coach to stand in. That's just the way it is. Tubby did not have the fire and fervor to try and get Auburn back in the state game. AU fans know they have to get a coach that can come in and show he's got the cojones to compete with Saban. That's why they were so disheartened when Davis turned them down. Now the two sexy picks are Fisher and Muschamp - largely because of their history with guess who? Landing one of these two I think are the only way they can save a little face in the state's scope. Having to hire a Brian Kelly or Turner Gill may actually be a better hire in the long run but they certainly aren't going to strike fear in our hearts. That's why I think Barners are so concerned.

I agree. No in demand coach would want to coach there, because there would be a better job paying just as much, or a school not so meddling. Why would Petrino leave Arkansas even if he could? Crazy.

They would be better off taking a flyer on a Turner Gill, the Dooley kid, Gary Patterson at TCU or maybe a Chris Peterson (though I doubt he would leave the West Coast). I would even look at the Mich. State coach.

In reality, Paul Johnson would be the best fit, but they won't go to him IMO.

Muschamp would be insane to give up Texas in the future to go there...but then again he IS nuts.

I don't think Fisher is going to be a good coach.

yeap...they will have to hire an up & comer who is willing to take a risk, or an OC or DC desperate for a head coaching job
