The list of potential HC include a number of carpetbaggers from up North including Cajun lover carpetbagger Saban. To say that no Southern born and breed coach is seriously being considered is insulting. Many of you talk about the SEC being great and we need SEC experience. That may well be true, but why not look at a Southerner with SEC winning experience or a Southerner with Div1A winning experience or a Southern Black College coach with winning experience. A Southerner can recruit our great players, a Souhernern will be at home in T-Town. I have too much Southern proud to believe we have to look for Yankee mercenary carpetbagger like Saban.
Get over it already, all we want is the best damn coach on the planet(Earth or otherwise) I personally don't care if he is from The Uppermost Northern Martian Hemisphere, just get him here and get him here now!
Dang Right Tide Junky! I dont care if we pay a coach 10 mill a year. We need a big season next year, i am sick of having a 10 win season, then a mediocre season the next year.

Lets not be to hard on 71Grad. There is a lot of truth to hiring someone that loves the South. I have been saying this since day one. What good would it be to hire a coach that does not love Bama, the SEC and the south. They could quickly bolt for a higher offer down the road.

Ignorance...plain and simple. You make my case for me 71Grad. Please go back and read some of my other posts prior to defaming my character. I understand that the truth hurts and that your mind may be fading but that is no excuse to take pot shots at my opinions! Oh and by the way I love you too!

I'm screwed up from being around Alabama teams that won championships. I thought a 10 win season WAS mediocre

The only problem I have with it Crimson is that it has happened on more than one occassion since Bear and in most accounts it has been unsuccessful. All I'm saying is to limit the search with such criteria is not doing justice to this program. Now if the new coach turns out to be a southern then great, but if he doesn't it doesn't mean he won't be great! That is my only point!
KC -You want Don Shula for 10 Mil? I bet he would take it... See my point? Some of you don't remember Bear or don't care. Also it is funny when I bring up consideration of a Black College coach nobody realizes that a great/winning Black college (Southern)coach could recruit and turn Bama around. No I won't get over carpetbaggers taking over Bama. We don't need a Yankee, mercenary, Cajun loving, quiter like Saban. We need a Southerner like Paul Johnson or Roderick Broadway!!

Well "Mr. Stuck on My Memories of Bear", you are going to get Coach Saban and like it!
No carpetbaggers ? Then I guess you would not have approved of this fellow -
Frank W. Thomas (November 15, 1898–May 10, 1954) was the head football coach of the University of Alabama from 1932 to 1946. During his tenure, he compiled a 115-24-7 (.812) record and won two national championships (1934 and 1941). His winning percentage ranks first all-time among Alabama coaches. He never coached a losing season, but coached two 10 win seasons. In 1945, his team scored 50 or more points in four straight games at the end of the regular season.
Thomas, who was born in Muncie, Indiana, played quarterback for Knute Rockne at Notre Dame from 1920 to 1922. He was, according to Rockne, the smartest player he ever coached. His roommate and best friend at Notre Dame was the famous George "The Gipper" Gipp.

Nope...not gonna do it... I'm going to leave it alone! Well technically, I guess I didn't sorry fellow tide fans but I couldn't help it!
I've heard the "hire a black coach" drum beat before. I HATE IT! I don't want a black coach or a white coach - I want a coach. I don't care his color. When we go out to hire a black coach we are not going to hire the best we can. Go out to hire the best we can...if he's black. Fine. If he's purple fine. If he's orange - well, that'd be taking it all too far .

You mean that people from other parts of the country know something about football, too? And, that some of them have even come to Alabama from Notre Dame? And, from Beaver Falls, PA?
