I am assuming most of you are older, ie not students right now or have not been in the past few years. I am and I sing it every time, I kinda laugh about it when we barely scrape by, but still sing it. Someone said we shouldn't sing it and act like we've been there before, the only thing, us students haven't been there before. Most of us can barely remember the '92 championship, I was 6, and '99 I remember it but not very well. I've seen Bama in some of the worst seasons ever, and I am happy about every win, because like this year, wins didn't come as much as they have in the past. I believe it should only be sung to qualified opponents or teams we actually beat the H*** out of, but until Bama returns to its rightful place among the top programs where we can do these things, it will continue to be sung to all teams, including Girl Scout Troop 113.

Non-Alums... People on the outside looking in. Everyone is welcome to be an Alabama fan, but people who have made a financial investment in the University are the ones who have the ownership. The cheer is only offically started by the band, in the last few minutes of the game when Alabama wins. I've heard many cheers led by other schools which are offensive and used pre-game, during-game and post-game. If you don't like the cheer, you should be watching the game with Bob Bockrath on television at home. "I know there's tremendous expectations here. I can tell you that, however you feel about it, I have even higher expectations for what we want to accomplish. I want to win every game we play." - Nick Saban |

now, rolltide, i have to respectfully disagree with that statement......anyone who buys a ticket, shows up to support the team(no matter how sucky we are), claims Alabama as their team through thick and thin deserves to be considered part of the Alabama nation!!

I'm an alum, but I was on a presidential, so where does that leave me by this standard? ---------- I want to go to the crappy town where I'm a hero! |

I'm really just kinda being the devils advocate on this roIItide...but isn't the UofA technically a state and federally funded university so therefore if I pay taxes I do have a financial investment in the University?

The Alabama Nation can include any tide and true fan... we don't want any of those temp fans of convience which Auburn has... the types that only claim fan-ship when the team is running. You asked for the definition of Sidewalk Alumni, not Alabama Nation. "I know there's tremendous expectations here. I can tell you that, however you feel about it, I have even higher expectations for what we want to accomplish. I want to win every game we play." - Nick Saban |

Sure.... why don't you exercise your rights and have UAB's money losing football program shut down? As a tax paying citizen of Alabama, you have an investment. But as an Alumni you have a larger investment (financial and/or sweat-equity). "I know there's tremendous expectations here. I can tell you that, however you feel about it, I have even higher expectations for what we want to accomplish. I want to win every game we play." - Nick Saban |

hey, rolltide, I didn't ask for the defination of sidewalk alumn--just trying to clarify it for someone else.
if we start getting testy on this thread about what constitues the Bama nation/true alumn i'm gonna have to make you all do what my girls have to do when they fuss(ya gotta know you're family no matter what)....ready?? Join hands and sing together..."come on people, now, smile on your brother(/sister) everybody, now, people, now, love one another right now...." This punishment is particuarly humilating when done in public in front of your peers. You only have to do it once...... |

You're right. Sorry, it was TNTider. "I know there's tremendous expectations here. I can tell you that, however you feel about it, I have even higher expectations for what we want to accomplish. I want to win every game we play." - Nick Saban |

I personally like Rammer Jammer....and I remember when it was chanted before the game started. I was just curious why you replied to the poster that thought rammer jammer was classless, "Did you go to school at Alabama or are you another member of the Sidewalk Alumni?" I just didn't realize that we had a name.

I was at the Bowl game and yes, we chanted it before the game. Many many times.
My favorite was when the band started up and I was in the orage section looking for more shakers and my mom, two sisters and I were singing it loud and clear! WE'RE GONNA BEAT THE HELL OUTTA YOU!! Better Here than Privit Drive... |

The Ole Miss cheer rocks - it always has.
I love to sing it, but I agree it loses it's effect on the Louisiana-Monroes and Vanderbilts of the world. Good thought. There's nothing better though than a game decided in the final minute, singing the Ole Miss cheer, and getting doused with Early Times and Jim Beam from the 16 oz. white plastic cups flying all over the place. I used to call those cup-slinging victories - I'd say our most recent at B-D stadium was 6-3 UT in '05. but yeah, "da-DA-da HEY SLIPPERY ROCK, da-DA-da HEY SLIPPERY ROCK, we just beat the hell outta you!" etc. is just not that satisfying. AS gOBAMA in 2008! |
