There were many good things said about J.P. Wilson today from both Saban and Caldwell.
I've defended him, and I think he has the potential to be a very good quarterback. This year he'll have an experienced offensive line, and a simpler offensive system (easier, faster reads). A great season on offense could help protect the young defense. I think that will be the key to the Clemson game—can Wilson throw to his young receivers against the Clemson secondary. |

I think McIlwain might be the final piece of the puzzle for JPW. I think he will surprise people and have an outstanding year.

I have always been a fan. I think that with improved OL play... he will have a great season. His problems happened when he tried to do too much by himself.

I have been pretty critical of him, but I would love to be proved wrong.

There are just some simple things, like ball control, reading defenses, looking off to the secondary receiver, that should be basic to a top-knotch SEC QB, Esp a SR....things that JWP has NOT shown to date..and you tell me he's gonna all of a sudden exhibit these traits in a magnificent way?
An OL and great receivers do not a QB make..just will help out one that has good talent in the first place. This ain't Hoover, JPW. |

When you don't know what you are doing, then you have those problems. Wilson wasn't comfortable with the offense last year, and it showed in his decision making. Combine a simplified offense with better OL play and maybe a consistent running game, and Wilson can perform like he did against Tennessee...every week. |

I think it is silly to assume that JP has taken to heart posters like us BUT if he has heard the critique of his coaches and is working hard to correct his deficits, he is to be commended. I have been a consistent critic but I want him to succeed. I will gladly give him credit as he merits it.

Coach Stallings had a sign in his office that read:
NEVER CONFUSE ACTIVITIES WITH RESULTS. I'll believe he's improved when I see it. Obviously, since he's one of ours, I hope he does. But I'm not a JPW optimist. "If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn't plan it properly." -- General Nick Lappos |

Sounds like he has really worked hard this summer to improve and thus, we will be a better team.
Thanks for the article. |

The proof is in the pudding. We will see how much JPW has improved in about 36 days.

If you listened to CNS on the 'Fifth Quarter Show', especially after our losses, you get an understanding of why JPW is starting.
CNS would ping JPW for the mistakes he made but on the other hand he would put them in context with what the other guys were doing. After the FSU loss he criticized JPW's inability to make throws but then pointed out that on plays where FSU was essentially running a 3-8 defense we COULD NOT run the ball. And in the MSU loss he said JPW makes a bad throw but a couple of other factors; play calling (everybody in the nation read that play), poor pass protection, and again our inability to run against a spread defense. I believe that JPW has what it takes to win in the big time. He is open to criticism but IMHO he played consistently better than every other player on offense with the exclusion of Andre. Bottom line: If JPW is starting but is not the best QB for our team then we have serious problems in the coaching dept. _____________________________ RTR!!! |
