I think we've all heard that stat, and how we are the only team out of 33 who had the opportunity to win all five in like 15 years or so...
Does anyone know who the other 32 teams are who didn't win five in a row?

probably the same reason why in the past three seasons bama has faced something like 17 opponents that have had a bye week before the game.

Irrelevant.

Florida will win the 6th consecutive SEC game without a bye when they beat South Carolina in two weeks.

Thus making Alabama's situation moot as Florida surpasses our accomplishments once again.

Not irrelevant. It never was a "record" - as I'm sure it's been done before, just not recently.
I'm just curious to look deeper into the teams that have had the opportunity.
- How many teams won the first four, then lost the last one?
- How many teams lost the last one, and it cost them an SEC Championship, or national championship?
- How many teams actually got stronger in those 5 game stretches...

These kinds of things are what I am looking for...
Thanks.

Bama has won 5 in a row twice in the past 10 years, no other team has done it. In the same 10 year period 11 teams have had 33 opportunities (meaning they won 4 in a row) but none accomplished the feat. I do not have the time or ability to research and determine all the other facts and I doubt if there are any other posters that would or could do it. There is a story somewhere that was posted last week but I don't think it answered your questions.

Chris Low posted about it on his SEC Blog on ESPN. His is the only story I've seen with a fairly in-depth breakdown.

To me, this "record" tells a lot of what we already knew, that winning week after week in the SEC isn't easy and that we have a pretty good team this year.
However, it is revealing how many famous upsets were on these 5th consecutive SEC games.

Research by ESPN Stats & Information showed that the 11 other schools in the league had a combined 33 opportunities this decade to pull off five consecutive wins over SEC schools and failed every time.

Included in that group were eight teams that went on to play in the SEC championship game, four of them league champs. Two of the four SEC champions that failed to do it were Florida in 2006 and Georgia in 2002. Both teams took their only loss of the season in the fifth game of that stretch.

Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Ole Miss combined for only two of the 33 opportunities, so the numbers weren't skewed by the weaker teams in the conference this decade. Florida, LSU, Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee accounted for 18 of 33 opportunities. Even Steve Spurrier's Gators couldn't pull it off in 2000.
