Media Days has hit a lull. We're waiting on "The Hat" followed by Bobby Johnson from Vandy.

LSU's Les Miles answered a question about some jabs he apparently took at Alabama during summer booster-club speaking appearances by saying he respects college football and Alabama's tradition -- basically that it was all done in fun.

Les Miles is at the podium answering questions about the season ahead. A curious fact that only I may find humorous: Miles has a kid named Smacker. I'm serious.

Miles just said he didn't know who LSU's natural rival was. LSU fans can help me out, but isn't it Ole Miss or Arkansas. Recently it has been Auburn, with those teams plays legendary, controversial games.

Miles is in favor of an early signing period. Urban Meyer and Slyvester Croom both said they were against it.

The stage has been cleared and the media throng is anxiously awaiting the arrival of Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson.
OK, so quite a few media people have left. But Johnson will appear as scheduled any moment now. |

Really? all in fun? Miles being funny? No, say aint so. Didn't saban say something about Louisianians-coonasses two years ago to some local (alabama) reporters? yeah, all coaches take jabs at other schools for "fun". Ask Tubby to Spurrier to Croom (he bashed Bama, remember)..Smack talking as a coach is fun..Even "dead man" Holtz used to do it. shocker, huh? Nice front page of tidesports.com this afternoon. ======================= LSU Fightin' Tigers: 2003 and 2007 BCS NATIONAL Champions. ======================= Here's to you Scottie- The next great All-American Safety at LSU. |

Saevick! Come on chief, we respect you for being honest about the two programs, you know as well as everyone else that actually listened to what was said that he didn't call anyone coonasses but was repeating, as part of a story, what someone else said. I agree that coaches take jabs at each other, and that what I pointed out is a minor detail, but there is a difference in the two. Now go find where Saban really took a jab, I'm positive it's there. |

Vandy coach Bobby Johnson just shed a little light on the proposed early signing period for football that SEC coaches discussed at their spring meeting:
Johnson said the idea was to limit early signees only to those who were absolutely sure of where they wanted to go -- and to do so by making anyone who had taken an official visit to any school ineligible to sign early. Like LSU's Les Miles, Johnson cited financial benefits as one reason to favor the idea. Schools could save thousands of dollars per recruit by not having to keep recruiting players who were already sure of their choice. "I thought we had a good solution," he said. "I was disappointed when it was tabled by the (school) presidents. But what do they know?" |

That's about it for today. Vanderbilt players are entering the room but not a lot of media folks hanging around at this point.
We're packing up and heading home -- got some writing to do for tomorrow's newspaper (and Tidesports.com). We'll be here bright and early on Thursday. Richard Lee will take over as chief poster on this thread for the day. Aaron Suttles will return on Friday. |
