Slive has also praised the league's commitment to academics and pointed out that SEC schools have raised academic entrance standards across the board, and took what might be considered a mild shot at schools that admit partial qualifiers in the process.

Florida's Urban Meyer about to start.
Aaron Suttles will have a short summary of Slive's remarks up on TideLive shortly.

Meyer says Florida will have a talented team coming back this season.
He said he believes seven wins come from talent, another two come from mixing in discipline and everything after that comes from leadership.
Interesting formula.

Meyer on SEC coaches gathering this spring in Destin, Fla.:
"I looked around the room and saw nine programs that think they're going to play in the conference championship game this year. Nine. You don't see that in many other conferences."

Meyer plans to introduce a new element to his spread option offense this season:
"We have a luxury this year. We have two really good tight ends. You'll see two tight ends in the game quite often. That's something we have not done a lot of because of personell."

Meyer on keeping fans' expectations realistic:
"That's not going to happen. To even concern yourself with that you're wasting brain cells and time."

Meyer on most underrated part of UF football team:
"Probably our offensive line. We probably have seven guys you could trot out there that we feel comfortable with right now."

Meyer on Tebow's leadership ability:
"As good as I've ever seen."

Meyer on 2-minute drill:
"We've worked hard on it. Somebody's got to step up and make a play. We have worked on it."

Meyer on fans in lobby waiting for Tebow:
"They're here for Tim?"
On Tebow's popularity phenomenon:
"I love it. I was getting pushed away by security in Times Square because they thought I was hanging around Tim trying to get an autograph. "He deserves it. He's a helluva a guy."

Meyer on rock-star phenomenon surrounding team:
"I'll be honest. I don't feel it. I felt it more last year coming off the (national championship) year we had."

Tebow, by the way, will speak from the podium instead of at a table with a microphone like most (possibly all the other) players at SEC Media Days this year.
Peyton Manning, to the best of my memory, was the first player to ever answer questions from the podium at this event. All coaches speak from the main podium in this oversized ballroom.

Meyer on whether he has any single-wing background on his coaching resume:
"I'm not sure I do have. I studied it when we were developing (his version of the spread option) at Bowling Green."
To clarify, Meyer's offense boils down to something very similar to the single-wing offense run out of a shotgun formation.

Meyer is done. He created a minimum of buzz with a low-key Q-and-A period.
Tebow up in about 5-10 minutes.

quote: Originally posted by Tommy Deas: Nick Saban's not here today, but you wouldn't know it wandering through the lobby.
The unofficial Tim Tebow reception committee is out in full force downstairs at the Wynfrey Hotel. Probably three dozen Gator fans waiting in a long line near the doorway -- the largest gathering of Florida fans in Jefferson County since the SEC Championship Game moved out of Legion Field.
Why is Saban not there today?
