The very first American College Football game was played in 1869. Rutgers and Princeton I believe. _________________________________

"All Football Comes from Amos Alonzo Stagg and Glenn Pop Warner".
Stagg won 314 games in his career. Pop Warner won 313 games. Alabama Football has ties to both men. Here's how!
Coach Bryant played for Frank Thomas (134-29-9),(Thomas played QB at Notre Dame, with "The Gipper",also was his roommate).
Frank Thomas played for Knute Rockne, (105-12-2).
Rockne played for Jesse Harper,(led Notre Dame to their 1st undeafeated season).
Jesse Harper played for Amos Alonzo Stagg.(The winningest coach ever until Bryant).
That is one connection, here is the other.
Coach Nick Saban played for Don James,(winningest coach is Washinton Husker history).
James played for Andy Gustafson,(winningest coach in Miami Hurricane history).
Gustafson played for Glenn "Pop" Warner.
If Pops influence carries down like Staggs, I'd say Bama Football is in good hands with Saban.
