Everyone is touchy right now because we have to put up with 362 or so more days of those arrogant, loud, hideous aubarn idiots' bragging again. Thanksgiving with the in-laws when they're orange is unbearable. This anger gets put at Shula, & maybe it should a little.

Yes, it was in this forum. There were those who were calling for his replacement because of the lack of "big game" success. I didn't agree, I'm just telling you what was going on in the forum. If I led you to believe I was talking about the university administration, I apologize. ROLL TIDE BABY!!! |

I just don't see how anyone would want Wells gone with the success he has brought to Bama. He's too good of a coach. I don't know if he is the best in the country, but he is one of the best in the south.

Thanks, lowerytodd. That's some good discussion. The way I reconcile it is the way the offense performed in '04, before the loss to injury of the entire starting backfield. Then in '05, the offense again started strong until the loss of a key receiver (Prothro). This is where it gets opinionated. I don't believe that we have enjoyed a great deal of depth in talent. The single loss of Prothro last year meant that receivers, for the most part, didn't have to be double-teamed. It's a trickle-down effect that had a bad impact on the offense. The same thing happened this year to an extent with the injury to Brown. DJ Hall had come along, but was now our only playmaker. Even so, the young JPW stared him down most pass plays. DJ did a great job to catch as many as he did. Beyond that, the OLine has been plain bad. I can't say if it was poor recruiting, or maybe with the probation we got the best players we could. Were they coached as well as they could be? Maybe not, but they weren't the most talented to begin with. Anyone notice, for example, any difference between the left and right sides of the line? There's a reason why we have a tendency to run to the left. I'm rambling, but the bottom line is (IMO) that the lack of quality depth has hurt the team's ability to execute play after play, game after game. You can't build that depth in one year, and the way the timing of probation and fallout has figured in, I think that '07 is the year to be past it. ROLL TIDE BABY!!! |

Shula Also did not: - Do Anything about Missed field goals/XPs in Fayetteville - Do anything about players getting flagged for interference in Knoxville - Do Anything about qbs throwing interceptions in Gainsville - Do anything about missed tackles in Baton Rouge - Do anything about missed blocks (or fumbles) against Auburn Sadly enough he's the one who is responsible for the "doing something about" all the things you mentioned. No improvement through-out the year, this should be the deciding factor. CSM is a good man, but he cannot see the woods for a tree. The best examples are the OL and offensive play calling. His decisions were terrible and it had nothing to do with probation. I highly respect Shula for taking this job during times of turmoil, but a new time has come for improved change. The Tide can bounce back, but it will take someone with strong leadership skills, a proven track record and the ability to adjust as required.
