Freshman I wish I had, had the chance. |

Above link is for Fanuzzi video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k6mniYVP2M&NR This link above is for Marve Now for my assesment and break down of the two videos: First of all this is all subjective and I must say that The quality of the video on marve is not as good as the quality of the Fanuzzi clip! With that being said here I go! Fanuzzi: I noticed that he made good deciscions when in the pocket, appeared to have a strong pocket presence, a strong arm and very accurate. I noticed him go through his progressions several times. Also take into consideration the competition on the other side of the ball, they appeared to be better coached and more athletic than that playing against Marve! Fanuzzi seems very smart and ahead of the game at this time! Very good runner and scrambler and can rifle the ball on target while on the run! Marve: I was not as impressed with Marve as I was with Fanuzzi (this is objective I promise) Marve has a rifle for an arm and is very accurate he also can put a nice touch on the ball when needed. Now pay attention the the video when you watch it and see if you notice the things I noticed for 1. It seemed as he got rid of the ball very quick (which normally would be a good thing right) now watch closer, it appears those plays are scripted and the he has chosen the receiver he is going to throw to prior to the snap... the evidence of this is in the beginning of the clip when for about 5 consecutive plays he throws into double coverage...while that will work in most 2A programs that will not go over well in the SEC. If you think I'm too hard on his competition then pay attention to the last 15 seconds of the clip (the opposing team wearing black) upon the snap all of the D-lineman stand straight up and and don't appear to be coached very well! I believe Fanuzzi is the better of the two and I believe Saban knows it. I also believe Saban knows that Marve has all of the intangibles (ie.. Jamarcus Russell) but deciscion making will need some improvement as it has not yet been tested. Also in regards to Fanuzzi remember these are hightlight films so we don't get to see the boneheaded plays, this could be simply that the people that put Fanuzzi's highlight reel together were better than those that put Marve's together! I agree with the decision to go after both, because Marve may be able to be developed. My current assesment is that Fanuzzi is farther along in his development and more adapt to playing earlier than Marve at this point in time! |

They both look like high school QBs to me.
Let's take another look in 2 years... _________________________________________________________________________ - Kodi Burns is an electrifying quarterback that can beat you with his arm and legs. |

TJ - I agree with your assessment whole heartedly. I would like to add another opinion if I may be so bold. To me - it appears that Fanuzzi had better mechanics than Marve did. I thought he followed through on his passes much better. Marve appeared to be throwing flatfooted alot of the time. Also - Marve's passes had more of a rainbow effect to them; whereas Fanuzzi's appeard to me more "lazer like" and he appeared to step into the throw. Again - this is only MY opinion. I would like to hear the opinion of other offensive coaches that may be on this board.
RTR!! We are your OVERLORDS... |

I have to make a correction to my above assesment. I went back and re watched the Marve clip and he did not throw into double coverage on 5 consecutive plays. It was 3 or 4 plays depending on your perception of the saftey coming over on one play to cover. And the plays were not consecutive but spread out throughout the video. I do still believe that Fanuzzi played better and against better competition.

FTBLFAN,
I would have to disagree with you there. I believe Marve looks like a typical high school quarterback, but I believe that Fanuzzi looks like he could play early. The question for Fanuzzi is whether or not he can adapt to speed of the SEC and the complex defenses and be able to adjust to college defense that are very good had hiding coverages, blitzes and schemes! With that being said Fanuzzi has the tools and will be a great quarterback. When we recruited Arenas last year and I watched his highlight film, I said similiar things about him. Matter of fact I expect that Arenas will find a way onto the offensive side of the ball this year in a role similiar to the way the Saints used Bush! I also feel with the vast improvement we will see in the special teams coaching that Arenas will become an integral part of the field position battle and because of this we will find our offense in better field position more often this season. I also had great things to say about Andre Smith....but that was a no brainer anyway. If you watched him play in last years Army all star game you knew he was going to be special! Just wait til Saban whips him into shape! |

tide junky you are dead on, Fanuzzi also appears to undertand how to look off coverage as well, which is something jpwilson is till learning.

Hey guys good comments all around. I'll add my 2-cents. Marve's receivers looked much more open to me so his throws just needed to be close to complete the pass. Fanuzzi's receivers were pretty well covered which meant he had to be damned accurate in his throws to hit his receiver and avoid an interception. I've looked at these highlights a couple of times and keep noticing NF's accuracy and precision. NF may not be quite as quick as Marve but accuracy means a lot in the SEC vs. speedy athletic DB's.

Hall of Famer![]() |
It will be Interesting to see how the CNS staff uses the resourse's
available which ever Marve or Fanuzzi or who-ever starts this year. Remember we're starting all over and so we'll find out A-DAY for sure... But I'm not surprised if we don't move some key personell around. I feel That JPW is set and the backfield will change as will the rest of the field...(too early to predict) "It's not what we have to work with...it's how we have to work with it..." |
