Class of 2006 ESPN 150 Konrad Reuland, a sophomore tight end, has decided to leave the University of Notre Dame.
Irish head coach Charlie Weis said, "After meeting with Konrad Reuland on Sunday, he has decided he will leave the team and withdraw from Notre Dame. I appreciate all Konrad has done for Notre Dame and I wish him nothing but the best."
Konrad's younger brother, Warren, is a Class of 2008 wide receiver prospect committed to play at Stanford.

As a recruit I would see that all these guys have a common denominator. All three are being beat out by freshmen. To me thats says Charlie plays the best player and not the upperclassmen. TE is one of the positions that ND actually has some depth. USC had one of their RB's transfer this year, one who was featured on the cover of SI. Now he has plenty of talent, but really USC has brought in a small army of damn fine runners in recent years. It's a natural part of the process - if we bring in 6 5* tight ends, we are gonna lose one or two that figure out they won't be seeing the field.

I never paid a whole lot of attention to Alabama until this year when i had a kid enroll. I know some of the history of Alabama v Notre Dame but I know it from the ND side.

So, as rationally as possible. Why do you all hate ND so much? I mean, when is the last time you even actually played each other?

Most of it stems from as far back as the 1960s when Bama won 2 NC and went undefeated the 3rd year only to be voted behind ND and Mich St. who played to a tie. Read The Missing Ring about the 1966 Bama team. http://www.amazon.com/Missing-Ring-Alabama-Crimson-Footballs/dp/0312336837

Then you have the 1973 and 1974 teams denied NC by ND. In 1977 Bama was ranked 3rd and ND 4th going into the bowls. Bama and ND won and the 1 and 2 teams lost and the media vaulted ND over Bama. ND has cost us at least 4 NC.

Other factors are ND losing and falling 1 spot, getting preferential bowls, undeserved rankings etc.

Look how much focus they get on ESPN and they are the worst team in Division 1-A.

Its funny how growing up in Irish country I heard a totally different viewpoint on all of that. And the stats are skewed on that worst team in I-A. What other team has played all its games against last years NY Bowl contestants?

The bottom line is that win or lose, Notre Dame is a special place (and I mean that in the most non-arrogant way possible; stop by campus someday and you’ll see what I mean) with a mystique all its own. 80 years of gridiron excellence just makes its fans confident that better days are ahead regardless of a decade and a half of not so great. I don't see that as arrogance anymore than the pride i see in Bama fans. The media is what it is.
