Starting with Mich. St
1995 - 1 change
1996 - 0 changes
1997 - 4 changes
1998 - 5 changes
1999 - Went to LSU with 0 assistants.
2000 - 4 changes
2001 - 3 changes
2002 - 4 changes
2003 - 4 changes
2004 - Went to Dolphins

So you can see, this is no big deal to Saban. It is just part of the process.

The year listed is the football season. The changes were made in the following calendar year.

You are right on Mikey. He is as demanding with his coaches as he is with players. This will be a yearly deal, let's just hope it isn't always involving OC & DC.

I dont think this is a big deal in respect to Applewhite's offense, but I just hope he doesn't take any recruits with him. Of course, most sign on for Saban and THE University of Alabama so hopefully there will be no fallout of recruits(specifically Star Jones)...Norm Chow for '08!!!

Will Muschamp was the LB coach in 2001. But yes you are right, stability at the coordinator positions is crucial to success.

thanks CR. This is the truth. NObody wants to hear that either. Take these four years out and you got one mediocre coach. He needs to lighten up.

There may be a correlation between stability and success, but you're overlooking the fact that the stable parts have to be able to work together. Did the offense under Fisher suck and show no progress in his first year? If so, then you have made your point. I'm all for stability, but how about we find some pieces that are good before we commit to keeping them long term.

Don't put words in my mouth. I was not making any point about stability for the sake of stability. That is just wrong. Clearly these parts do not work and I was against the hiring of Joe Pendry from day one and the further this goes along we find out more and more that Pendry was designing the lame offense that did not work. Read what Cecil Hurt wrote...too much Pendry input, not enough Major Applewhite control. These parts had to be changed and that was my point, Saban stumbled across two great assistants at the same time at LSU and that is very hard to do. Bama needs to keep Steele on defense which is fine and go out and hire a proven offensive coordinator with proven, winning credentials. No more training wheel types like some have rumored Bobby Williams who is a career position coach and has never ran an offense and the SEC is not the place to learn how to do so. Pendry either needs to focus entirely on the offensive line and the offensive line alone or head back to the NFL with Jason Garrett to the Ravens as is being rumored lately.

There are a ton of good offensive coordinators out there:

Oregon
Illinois
Central Michigan
Fresno State
Cincinnati
Toledo
Tulsa
Rutgers
Boise State

I wasn't really responding to you, CR, so much as to Bamaincincy who seemed to imply that the reason Saban needed to lighten up was because he was running off coaches that should stay and things would be more stable. Sorry for the confusion.

I wouldn't totally argue that. We will never know or be able to compare Fisher and Applewhite because he won't be here long enough. It just seems to me that Applewhite had his hands tied behind his back. There are a couple of factors behind that: 1...He sucks....2....Pendry is mucking it up....I am just not sure which one it is.

Can someone please tell me when programs don't have change. Everybody was OK with Middleton to Duke but with Major it is like the sky is falling. Were we not the same ones a couple of years ago that said there needs to be staff changes and when it did not happen the main guy got fired and we jumped on the "if he had only made changes" bandwagon. One of my best friends hired me four years ago and told me upfront he was an A-hole to work for. I knew that already and am still working for him today. You have to know what you are getting into when you come, if you don't then you need to look elsewhere. THIS IS NOT INTRAMURALS! LOL i had to put that in there.

The thing that gets me is that MA was hired as a co-coordinator when he came in. What exactly did he think that meant? That's why I have a hard time believing that it is his decision to leave because he wasn't given enough control.
