Remember the first few games?

Cody as a blocking back? Picking up a first down on the 40? Getting in the endzone on first and goal? Football gold, Jerry.

Then "poof" it was gone! When is the last time you saw that package? What happened to Huber in backfield?

It is about as money as it gets. Why in the world wouldn't we use it when we need it?

Can anyone explain?

The theory is to set defenses up for later and make future teams prepare for more. I don't like that theory... I much prefer taking what the defense gives and doing what works until they stop it.

Cody at fullback is not "the jumbo package". The jumbo package was that bullcrap Shula used to pull with Leron McClain and Tim Castille in the I. While that looked great on paper, it hardly ever worked.

I heard that too, *Not wanting to show too much early in the season*

I understand not wanting to show the razzle-dazzle in the wildcat, but 4th and 2 POWER FREAKING FOOTBALL is not giving anything away. That is the beauty of it. You know it's coming, and there isn't a damn thing you can do to stop it.

I am not a fan of running up the score to appease voters, but scoring touchdowns to appear competent seems reasonable to me.

Getting too cute on Offense. The players getting their heads too full of the media telling them their the best, GMac's the best, Julio's the best, Not throwing to Julio enough, GMac for Hiesman, it's like they've totally lost focus on what got them where they are. Hopefully the off week gave them a chance to catch their breath & get mentally focused again.

Different coach and different O line.

Call it what ever you want.

But Cody at the goal line or anywhere else worked everytime they ran it, and we don't do it anymore.

It worked when Coach Bryant would move fullback (#44 'Touchdown' Craig Turner) into the tailback slot when he got to the goal line...so I don't see why it wouldn't work now (since Coach Bryant used to do the same thing).

Risk of injury to Cody?

Beats me. I don't understand it either. Ingram behind Cody is unstoppable imho.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work now. I am just saying the infamous jumbo package was something different than Cody in the backfield, the jumbo package was bashed into oblivion on this website for years.

McElwain or Saban not calling for this offensive set has nothing to do with players getting their heads full.

Have you gone away from what works?

I have no idea why we have not run that lately. My only suspicion is a combination of two things: (1) limited possessions inside the 5, and (2) the quality of defensive lines we have played.

Maybe someone remembers better than I... Did we run this package last year against Florida, Ole Miss, and the like (he was out for the LSU game, right?)?

I doubt the coaches just decided, "Hey, let's try something more fancy!!!" "Awesome idea!" I'm sure there is some reason. Not that the reason is a good reason, but I doubt it's simply that they wanted to "get cute". McElwain doesn't strike me as a "cute" kind of guy.

Yep. How can you have second and two at your opponents 4 yard line and not run this play?
You have two (count em, two) downs to get 2 yards and a first and goal. Honestly, I think Ingram would have scored in only one play from the 4 behind Cody.
