Hope you're right. We definitely need him down the stretch to keep pressure off the running game. You've got to love the heart that Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson have when they carry the ball.

As for what I know about the replay, check my answer in the post above.

As for what others in the media right, it probably has nothing to do with Alabama and everything to do with blown calls in Georgia-LSU and Florida-Arkansas games that made SEC officiating an issue to the regional and national media outlets.

If their point is that SEC officiating is bad, I agree. Has been for years. So what?

I would guess they probably don't point out that Alabama might have gotten a favorable replay in the first quarter except that a power surge or something like that in the replay booth made it impossible for them to review the call on a catch/non-catch on UA's first possession. If that call goes Alabama's way, maybe Alabama scores a TD on that drive for all we know. But it doesn't fit the agenda of the conspiracy theorists, so you won't hear about it.

My belief is that Julio has often been thinking past the catch to what he's going to do with the ball after he catches it, thus not concentrating on securing the ball. He obviously didn't do that on the 73-yarder.

I thought that was the loudest I have ever heard it in Bryant Denny, particularly on third down when LSU got the ball after we scored to go up 21-15. I liked how the stadium sound guys took advantage of LSU timouts on third down to play AC/DC Hell's Bells. And Bama really 'made their ass quit', usually to receive medical attention.

You are way overstating LSU's offense -- try 9 yards on 11 plays, or maybe it was 11 yards on 9 plays. I forget, but it will be in our stories tomorrow.

I think Maze was the receiver who was open most often. Go back to the Florida International game and Mike McCoy was his favorite receiver. At Kentucky, if memory servies, it was Darius Hanks.

My point being, I think he wants to throw to the first read who is open and not to a particular guy.

I think the main reason LSU had clock management problems (i.e. wasting timeouts) was really more due to running some kind of free-substitution Canadian Football League offense.

LSU was running 3 to 5 guys in and out on nearly every play for a long time (less subbing once Jarret Lee came in). They had trouble lining up or staying lined up. On the long gainer called back for having 5 in the backfield, I (and several others in the press box) called the penalty before the refs threw the flag -- and I'm not 100 percent sure they didn't have SIX in the backfield at the snap.

It looked like a Chinese fire drill, or maybe a Cajun fire drill. Lots of confusion, which led to timeouts and penalties for not getting plays off in time because they couldn't get them lined up right.

I kid, but there is a point: we have been looking for SOMEBODY to consistently step up in the passing game to take pressure off Julio. Maybe #4 is ready to take that "next step".

After the timeouts the million "injury timeouts" started. I know LSU used at least a couple just to rest Wink

Thanks for the insight, Tommy. It looked to me on TV like Bama just simply punished them physically, so it's nice to hear that from someone who was there in person.

What was the chatter in the press box about the team before you headed to the sideline?

A lot of our talk among ourselves (T-News staff) was deciding who was going to write about what and changing that around as the game kept changing.

There was also a lot of talk about Alabama's physicality and how LSU players were being scattered around the field.

One person (I won't say who since it was just idle chatter) was wondering if the SEC didn't have a three-knockdown rule after Peterson left the game for the third time. Should there have been a countout that prevented him from returning.

There were a few I-told-you-so's from some (like me) who pointed out that Julio had schooled LSU last year and was due for a breakout. I'm the guy who twice made reference in print this week to the fact that 7 of the 11 touchdowns scored on LSU's defense had been through the air, and that Alabama's passing game might be able to take advantage.

At halftime, there was debate about Alabama's game plan. Some thought UA's staff was nuts to pass so much out of empty sets and only give Ingram the ball six times. I'm one of those, but I also believed Alababma wouuld run the ball in the second half after using the passing game to spread LSU's defense out in the first half.

I, for one, never really felt that LSU would win. Alabama missed opportunities, but never really stopped moving the ball. I also thought Jarret Lee would be good for at least one pick-six, and there was an opportunity to two missed there also.

And there was a lot of talk about just how awesome a football player Rolando McClain is. It really is a privilege to cover him.
