Julio and some of the other freshmen aren't starting right out of the gate or if they aren't starting the whole year? I ask that because everyone seems to think it is a foregone conclusion that Julio and Jerrell and a bunch of other true freshmen are going to start for the Tide and be all SEC and all American and what not. I know there was a lot of hype for Tyler Watts coming in and there were a lot of fans that moaned and complained that he didn't start right off, matter of fact he was reshirted if I'm not mistaken.
I could care less who starts as long as they perform and I trust the coaches to make the right decisions in that area.

just a thought for you....
No use to get riled up either way right now. As we all know the most popular player is always the one on the bench.

Personally, I don't know that ANY true freshmen will start, although I would be SHOCKED if a few aren't by game 3 or 4. Basically, it boils down to who the best players are, and some of these freshmen are just better athletes than the older guys on the depth chart. It is inevitable that some of them will make a huge impact in 2008.
No, I am not going to be upset if the coaches decide Julio Jones won't start a game this year, but I'd be shocked if he isn't possibly our biggest receiving weapon by mid-season, barring injury. In order for this to be a successful football season, we MUST get contributions from youngsters. It's that simple.
I agree completely that it's an issue of performance. I could care less if Julio starts, if he happens to be beat out by Stover or McCoy or some other unknown in practice.
That's probably one of the best things about the Saban Era, in my mind. I trust him to make a decision on playing time based on performance versus star status or seniority.

I won't be upset that they aren't starting because I believe CNS will put the best players on the field. I will, however, be upset that they aren't ready to start yet. But you can't really be upset about the best players playing.

I definantly think some of them will play and be an impact as well. I personally don't see any of them starting right out of the gate.

What I do feel comfortable posting is that at least a few of these true freshmen will be on the special teams units. Guys like Harris, Barron and Scott are prime candidates.
I won't moan and groan if some of them don't start. I trust that the coaching staff will be putting the best players on the field. But I do think in some areas were the Bama is thin it will be almost impossible to go the entire year without a freshmen starting. So whereas I won't get upset if they don't start, I fully expect some freshmen to start somewhere other than special teams throughout the season...if that makes any sense.

If some of these freshman don't start..then this was not the number 1 recruiting class, as advertised. Ga. and Auburn had freshmen start last year, and they are more talented than Bama, it should not be un reasonable to think that some of these guys could't start on a 6 nd 7 team.
