Scout team![]() 2008 |
Does anyone know the last time a Bama player left early for football? I noticed on ESPN that there were a few players leaving early from the SEC. Do we have less players doing that over the past decade or does it just seem like we do?
I know in Basketball Winston left early and didn't get drafted. They said there were 19 Pro scouts at the game last night, that makes me think that some of our guys might be thinking about going pro early. I sure hope not. ROLL TIDE!! |

Well they went early for different reasons but Dante Ellington and Santonio Beard.

Didn't Justin Smiley leave after his junior year and was drafted by the 49ers (I think)?

Yeah I think so, he used the Wesley Britt injury as his reason. |

Ouch! Hirchel Bolden was talented young man. He was stellar at Dothan High School (I think). He was not given a fair shake at Bama. He was not a DB in high school. He would have been better utilized on offense. I've never played organized football, but I would think learning how to cover receivers, when you had little, if any, experience, in high school would be difficult. If memory serves me, he was swapped from offense to defense. Then moved to offense again - only to move back to defense. Roll Tide! Respect all foes; fear none! |

There were a large number of scouts at the game largely due to the presence of LSU's Davis. also, there is a good chance that Steele will go if he comes back from this latest injury well, has a strong March Madness and is projected 1st round. The injury may be a blessing in disguise for Gottfried, huh? Davidson is mentioned by many as a pro prospect, but I don't see it. Bless him for what he has been through, and he has improved tremendously, but he just doesn't have good "basketball IQ." He always seems to try to make the spectacular, rather than the fundamental, play. Last night he tried to block every interior shot, giving up position under the basket, a key factor in Davis's 18 rebounds. His shot selection is questionable (low 40%, very bad for a true center). And for God's sake why has he shot so many 3's this year? Has he made the first one? I believe Hendrix is the superior post player (60+ %). |

You're right. And didn't Dwayne Rudd go early as well? Respect all foes; fear none! |
