I didn't see the episode, but for those who have never seen the show, the whole premise is basically that he is completely socially awkward and does things that make me cringe while watching from the comfort of my living room.

Mild example: In one of the recent episodes, he sees two friends walking their adopted daughter in a stroller. The adopted daughter is obviously oriental. He asks the friends whether the daughter has shown any interest in using chopsticks.
I probably shouldn't have laughed at that...

We (the collective Christian "we") go bonkers over paintings and images that are really of typical 15th and 16th century Europeans. I have news for you-- Jesus was definitely not European.

No doubt Jesus wasn't European but that's not the point. Of course you know that but it doesn't matter to a back handed Christian.
The Bible clearly admonishes us to not worship idols. Yet, somebody puts up a mass-produced copy of a copy of a copy of a painting from 1500 of what somebody thought Jesus would look like (amazingly, he bears a strong resemblance to Duke so-and-so from 'round the way) and CHRISTIANS proceed to kneel and bow and pray in the general direction of said drawing. Are you contending that such a representation warrants worship since it "represents" God, even if it was likely mass-produced in China?

Agree. While we display crosses and other Christian art in different places in our church we don't have crosses or "pictures" of Jesus in the Sanctuary for this very reason. I can't recall ever seeing a picture or painting of Jesus unless it was part of some Christmas or Easter decorations that the kids made.

My guess is that the writers of the show were disrespecting Christianity in general, but to your point a picture is not a holy relic or something.

you're smarter than this. i know you don't believe this for one minute. i don't know any Christians that worship a picture. it's just a symbol to help remind the followers of Christ what their purpose here on earth is and it serves as a reminder to these believers of who their one true god is.

you already know this too. I'm calling bull**** on you.

I'm not even sure if they were disrespecting Christianity so much as they were satirizing how easily some Christians can be misled.

I loved that episode, and it is funny.

for some yes, myself no. I don't need it however if some do, it is ok and it's not idolatry. God uses many different ways to reach his followers right? If a 15th century painting is the starting point for some, than so be it. if it brings more people to God, than that's a good thing. Right?

This is the first I've heard of this, but if this person did it, he should have his FCC licence revoked. If hate speech means anything, this is it.

And for the record, Buscuit, I've been a Christian for nearly 40 years and have a degree in Religion, and have worked in the church and in foreign missions and have never seen any person or congreation that I have ever been associated with EVER, even once, post a picture of Jesus much less worship one, so what you're doing is just trying to deflect from the real issue which is to insult and blaspheme what most Americans hold sacred -- Christ himself, if in fact he did what you say.

Did God write the Bible? Was Jesus born in a manger? Was Jesus crucified?

Since you don't know the answer to these questions and you don't know what Jesus looks like I think it would be better for you to keep yer trap shut.

Yes, you got it right. I was going for the sarcasm.

I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking the chopsticks comment was funny. "Inappropriate" humor is the best, in my opinion. And there's plenty of it in Curb.

Repeat after me. Symbolism. I see plenty of crosses in churches. I doubt any of them look like the cross Jesus was crucified on. So you see, people don't worship the images they worship the deity behind them.

Like I said, you knew that but just wanted to stir some shat because that's what you are a shat stirrer.

I thought it was funny when I used to be able to watch Bugs Bunny cartoons with the little black pygmies with big white lips dancing around a boiling pot with Bugs in it. Don't get to see that anymore due to political correctness.
