Why did I put "picture" in quotes? Well...I have always found it intriguing that people treat supposed paintings of Jesus as worthy of worship, especially since Jesus the Nazarene couldn't have remotely looked like that. We (the collective Christian "we") go bonkers over paintings and images that are really of typical 15th and 16th century Europeans. I have news for you-- Jesus was definitely not European.

Do you think Larry David would be thought of as humorous if he had urinated on a picture of Muhammad? I know it's just a picture but would Islam think the same as you, BIG?

No doubt Jesus wasn't European but that's not the point. Of course you know that but it doesn't matter to a back handed Christian.

Actually, I don't watch the show, haven't seen the clip, and have no opinion as to whether it was funny or not. I've also NEVER EVER SEEN a picture of Jesus. And I'm willing to wager no one else currently alive has seen one either. But I'm sure that doesn't matter...

The Bible clearly admonishes us to not worship idols. Yet, somebody puts up a mass-produced copy of a copy of a copy of a painting from 1500 of what somebody thought Jesus would look like (amazingly, he bears a strong resemblance to Duke so-and-so from 'round the way) and CHRISTIANS proceed to kneel and bow and pray in the general direction of said drawing. Are you contending that such a representation warrants worship since it "represents" God, even if it was likely mass-produced in China?

Well hells bells why don't we all just go around pissing on Bibles, in churches, nativity scenes or crosses for that matter?

After all you know God didn't write the Bible, set up churches, and Jesus wasn't born in a manger or crucified.

For somebody who calls themselves a Christian you sure have a funny way of going about it.

If I didn't know better I would think you're a Muslim.

He also leads worship at his church. I'm sure that when the congregation looks at the worship leader when they are singing the songs this means they are worshipping him instead of God.

The picture is obviously a symbol to some and does not necessarily mean that they are worshiping the picture as if it were God. However, when you take such a symbol and urinate on it, what kind of message are you attempting to send? I highly doubt that it was, as you pointed out, that the picture is not historically accurate.

Maybe it doesn't bother you when someone blatantly urinates on your religious beliefs, but I can see why it would offend many in the same note.

Only someone who clearly is coming to church for the wrong reasons. Sounds like you might be one of those. I recommend you pray about it-- but not to a painting.

The point was not that people shouldn't be offended when their religion is attacked, mocked, or urinated on. As I noted, I don't even watch the show, and I do understand the prevalance of religious imagery and symbolism-- even when said symbolism is a bit askew.

Many young people like to wear crosses around their necks, complete with Jesus on them. As one of my friends (formerly a youth minister, now senior pastor of a church) likes to point out to them, if Jesus were still on the cross, we'd be in a whole lot of trouble. It's one thing to wear the cross as a symbol of ones faith, but I sincerely hope the symbol doesn't replace actual understanding.

BiG is just trying to get a rise out of you folks.

I didn't see the episode, but for those who have never seen the show, the whole premise is basically that he is completely socially awkward and does things that make me cringe while watching from the comfort of my living room.

Mild example: In one of the recent episodes, he sees two friends walking their adopted daughter in a stroller. The adopted daughter is obviously oriental. He asks the friends whether the daughter has shown any interest in using chopsticks.

Sorry to burst your bubble BIG. But I also lead worship at my church. So condemn someone else, okay. I'll be praying for you.
